A Minnesota Beekeeper in Winter
March 12, 2018
Once again, the sun is up and shining. Yesterday I was able to check on Hive Stripe, and they are Alive! Small cluster, so not out of the woods yet. I opened a few gaps on the top, so they have access to their sugar. They seem to have a lot of honey left so they may not need it. I may end up closing them back up again, soon. We’ll see.
A little history on Hive Stripe. This hive was a walk away split I made after Hive White swarmed. I found several sealed queen cells, so I took a bar with one and put it in Hive Stripe. I also brought over a few bars of honey, pollen, and bees. I sealed them up for a day, then released them. I nursed them all through August, and when my Langstroth hive would not requeen, I did a newspaper combine and added them to Hive Stripe. That was my first split ever. So, I am hopeful that they will continue to survive the rest of the way.
Thanks for reading along.
So happy to hear some good bee news! Sincerely hope your hive continues to do well against this lingering winter.
Thank you :)
