Tasting Experience:
Welcome back for another beer tasting, I'm Kevin with CrafeeBeer. For today's beer tasting, we've got a Grisette style craft beer. Today's Grisette is the Prince & Pauper it's a 3.9 % ABV beer that is long-coming collaboration between Mikkeller (DK)in Sandiego and Denmark and Omnipollo (SE) in Sweden. It is a Belgian style of beer that is similar to a saison, so it's the cousin to a saison. The style is described as a low ABV wheat beer brewed with malted wheat unlike a lot of Belgian styles.

Most other Belgian styles are brewed with unmalted wheat so this beer could end up being somewhat sweeter. Also, wheat beers usually have a fuller body, good head retention and many are hazy because there are more proteins in wheat.

The brewer's website says about this beer.
Prince & Pauper
In this long-coming collaboration between Mikkeller (DK) and Omnipollo (SE), all star brewer Keith Shore and his kindred brewer Karl Grandin came together to forge a classic.
“A modern Grisette for the future for all day drinking. A pale, hoppy, blonde, crisp and clear, not hazy at all, super clean and dry ale brewed with spelt. Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin. Dry-hopped” – Brewer Keith Shore
“A-m-a-z-i-n-g citrusy and grassy aroma. 3.9 % but still with impressive body” – Brewer Karl Grandin
Prince and Pauper is a true deserted island beer. Crushed cold it showcases bursting hops and complex yeast while striking the perfect balance of drinkability. It is in fact, most probably, the best beer in the world.
P & P comes wrapped in a 50 cl can, adorned by images only imagined and lovingly produced by the Scandinavian design duo, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø and Henok Fentie
“Henok is obviously a Leonardo da Vinci…” – Artist Mikkel Borg Bjergsø
“…” – Artist Henok Fentie.

Obviously, there is some tomfoolery going on here in the description because the brewers described in the description are the artists and the artists described in the description are the Brewers. Keith Shore who's described here as one of the Brewers is actually the artist who made a lot of the Mikkeller artwork know for that very distinct line artwork.

Let get this fine craft beer out of the can and into a glass and see what we have for today's craft beer tasting.

It is really pale yellow, it looks a lot like pineapple juice. That is how I would describe it but, it's fairly clear for a wheat beer.

As the brewers described it, it's not hazy and it has a couple fingers of nice dense white head that looks like it's gonna stick around while.

The nose on this beer to me is pineapple juice not sure if I got that initially and that's why I subconsciously thought it looked like pineapple juice in the glass but it's it's a little bit spicy pineapple juice. It smells really good this is one of those beers that has a nose or an aroma to it that when you smell it makes you really want to drink it so I'm gonna stop talking and give it a try.

Wow, this is really good really good, the beer has some tropical juices like pineapple, yes I think pineapple is the best description. Tropical juice with a very sweet flavor and then it has a little touch of spice mixed in there.

It remains a little bit of grapefruit juice, maybe a little a little bit of lemon and a little bit of spice. It definitely has some sweetness and a touch of spice around the edges, just a little bit and there's also a little hoppy goodness on the back end that leaves that a little bit of drying bitterness.

This is really well done, this has got a great flavor story. The beer is really succulent tropical juice sweetness up front there's a little bit of spice that that shows up and then a little touch of hot bitter on the back end.

The can is the typical Mikkeller artwork which is usually a kind of line art. This can is just white with the line art of a couple faces and then it's got hand lettering on the back that has the ingredients in a few different languages.

The Mackellar art is always very simple but very distinctive you can spot Mackellar can a mile away. Since this is a collaboration I assume both of the artists were involved in the can art.
A really good beer at 3.9% ABV, you could drink them all day long.

Let's see what people are saying about this online. Prince & Pauper |from Omnipollo has a 3.9 4 out of 5 rating on BeerAdvocaye.com that is a "very good" rating. On untappd it's has a 3.42 cap rating.

For my check-in I gave it a rating of 4.25 caps on untappd, I'm really digging this one. I gave the beer the description of sweet tropical juice, lemon, spice, and a dab of hoppy bitter on the finish. it is crisp, clean, crushable wheat beer with a lighter body. Bravo!

There are conflicting stories or theories on how the Grisette style got its name. Gris means grey so some theorize it might have been because the way they brewed the style it back then caused the beer to appear dark and a bit grey. Other people say that the women who were servers in the taverns or pubs where the miners were drinking it always wore a type of grey dress so it could be named after the dress. And still, others theorized that the miners worked in stone quarries so by the end of the day they were covered in grey dust.

Regardless of how the beer style got its name, this one is a great beer.
