Jan Tormans, propriétaire du groupe Tormans, a signé une promesse d'achat de l'abbaye. L'entrepreneur aurait l'intention d'agrandir la brasserie, mais comme aucun moine ne participera plus au processus de brassage, la bière ne sera plus qualifiée de trappiste. Le goût, cependant, ne devrait pas changer.

Depuis 2021, il n'est plus labellisé Authentic Trappist Product car il n'y a plus de moines à l'abbaye de Notre-Dame de Saint-Benoît, mais le brassage reste sous la supervision de l'abbé de l'abbaye de Westmalle2.

Depuis 2003, la production de la bière trappiste "Achel" se décline en 6 variétés4 :
- une bière pression brune, titrant 5%.
- une bière blonde à pression, titrant 5%.
- Achel blonde, une bière triple, légèrement ambrée, refermentée en bouteille, - d'une teneur en alcool de 8%.
- Achel brunette, 8% d'alcool
- Achel extra brune, 9,5% d'alcool
- Achel extra blonde, 9,5% d'alcool
Ces deux dernières sont brassées occasionnellement et commercialisées en bouteilles de 75 cl.
Since 2003, the production of the Trappist beer "Achel" is declined in 6 varieties4 :

- Achel blonde, a triple, slightly amber beer refermented in the bottle, with an alcohol content of 8%.

Achel is one of the eleven beers bearing the hexagonal logo of the international label Authentic Trappist Product (ATP) in 2017. In January 2021, the beer lost its ATP title, because the last monks of the abbey moved to Westmalle Abbey5.
