The Lord of the Beer #27 Lucifer

in #beer7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians !

Let me tell you how I discover this one !
I really never have heard of this beer until my step-mother, when she heard of my posts about beer, asked me if I knew the Lucifer. And it didn't take a lot of time until she came to me with this beer while we were sitting on the terrace.
So here we are drinking a beer in the sunlight ! It was a very pleasant afternoon with my family, chilling all day and we even went to our little paddling pool.

Description

This is a blond beer with 8%, created in the early 1980s. It's made by the Het Anker brewery which has quite a story, it all begins in a hospital where they started to brew a beer around the year 1400. Since that moment, the brewery works quite well and is bought by the Van Breedam family in 1872. They installed a brand new equipment and kept the production of special beer.
In 1990, they launched a 3 stars hotel which is unique for a brewery, it's the first one to do that. Moreover, they started to make whiskey too so basically, you can go there drink as much whiskey and beer as you can, then fall asleep in your room just above the bar.
What a great place !

Tasting

Time to taste ! It smells malt a little, I found this one quite strong even if it's "only" 8%. By that, I mean the Malheur 10, for example, felt less strong than the Lucifer even if it's stronger. The bottle warns me by saying it will be bitter but I didn't feel it at first, then the long and bitter after taste arrives and stays for a long time.
Still, the taste is quite simple, it's pretty sweet and very sparkling. Also, there is a little spicy taste which justifies the flame on the bottle.

Rating

I rate this beer 7/20, I didn't really like this one. You know that the bitterness and I, we aren't friends so a beer with a long and bitter after taste isn't for me. Also, the taste is quite simple and don't have a lot of personality.
Remember that the note I give is subjective and you may find this beer delicious.

My first experience with Lucifer was at a seafood restaurant in DC 6 years ago. I had a heavy buzz going only after my first beer. didn't realize the 8% alcohol content at first.

Yeah it's quite a strong one too :)

ahah yeah it's not a beer for me :p And I was surprised to know that my stepmom like this one.

Bad lazy label designer too

I love everything beer and this sounds like an interesting try, although I am not much for bitter after tastes. I want to visit Belgium soon, so I may try these for myself. You have gained a new follower and beer lover, good posting friend!

Thank you and feel free to check out my other post to find beers that you want to try when you'll come to Belgium :D

The first time I drank this was in Bruges, Belgium & I drank it after I'd had several other beers beforehand. I didn't realize how strong it was. It's a good beer but as a nightcap....not the best choice. As a starter, for sure.

When it comes to beer I am not really that much of a connoisseur. I pretty much stick with two types:

Well, at least one of them is a Belgian Beer! Have a great week!

I don't know any of these but if I ever find the Belgian one, be sure that I'll taste it ! :D

lucifer i dont forget this naem bcz if u say ur step mother drink it hope this is good for ladies and i will try it @jarendesta if u suggest it for ladies

I don't recommend this one it's too bitter and it lasts for a long time.

To stay in the name 'genre' I would recommend Satan Gold for the ladies ;-)

satan gold ok if u suggest this sure i will try it next

It looks great in orange but it seems like burning inside though it is good in taste. Lucifer and its best.

Can't believe they bought a hotel - that is an interesting development.

Do u like Blonde #beer ... or Dark beer better?

PS I followed u, to learn more on lager and dark ale (and many kinds of BEER )

I'm more into blond one... And if you're speaking about beer I also prefer blond beer, especially since I discover the Malheur 10 :D
