The Lord of the Beer #71 Omer

in #beer7 years ago

Hello Steemians !

This one is a special reference to my father and stepmother ! It’s because when they take a vacation to the Belgian beach, they often take this one. In Belgium, you’re never that far from the sea, even if you’re at the exact opposite, in three hours the journey is done.
Anyway, when I brought back this beer last weekend, they were all excited about the Omer because it reminds them their vacation.

Description

This is a blond beer with 8%, it’s brewed by the Omer Vander Ghinste brewery located in the west part of Belgium, in the Flemish part. This brewery was created in 1892 when Rémi Vander Ghinste bought a facility for his son, Omer. He created the beer and gave it his own name. The fun fact is that in order to keep his great label Omer beer, he named his son Omer too !
This family tradition was kept until the first world war where Omer had to hide in Paris, in the Jacobins street. This was the inspiration he needed to create a kind of beer, the “Cuvée des Jacobins”.
Despite all I just said, the Omer traditional blond that I tried was created in 2008, after 120 years of brewing tradition. So it’s not the original one created by Omer the first if I can speak like that.

Tasting

Time to taste ! The Omer has a very particular odor and is very sparkling too. The taste is quite long and evolving, by that I mean there is an intense explosion at first with the sparklingness then it fades progressively. Lastly, it isn’t too sweet or bitter.

Rating

I rate this beer 13/20, I can’t say it’s a bad beer that I didn’t like, it was perfectly ok. However, I’m not a fan, I found the explosion at the beginning too violent. Great beer but not one of my favorite !
