Guinness: Nectar of the Gods (The Lord Clifden, Birmingham, UK)

in #beer7 years ago

So, my favourite beer is Guinness, probably because I am a walking stereotype (red haired Irish guy who likes to drink). Anyway. Since I find myself living in the UK, it is quite hard to find a good pint of Guinness. UK barmen, unlike Irish ones, are not really trained in how to poor a good pint of the black stuff. And just to compound this problem, often the gas mix they use to pour is wrong (too much, or just entirely CO2, whereas it should be nitrogen rich...).

Inspired by @eroche hunting down a good pint of Guinness in Dublin, I decided to do the same in the UK. And the other night I came across a pub, The Lord Clifden in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, that serves an amazing pint.

It was rich, creamy, smooth, took the right amount of time to settle, and cost £4.20. It was far superior to the pints I have had in most other bars in the area that serve Guinness, so without further ado, here is a photo of the stuff:

The bar has a wonderful beer garden with foosball and ping pong tables, and often good live music and DJ sets. Once I visit it some more times and get more pictures, I'll do a full review.

Anyway, highly recommend this place if you like the black stuff and are in the UK.

Advertised you a bit in my Guinness review ;) Cheers!

Love Guinness & also love the Lord Clifden in Brum! Cheers!

Hardly a local, are you? Its quickly becoming my new favourite spot for after work pints!

Birmingham born and raised. Live about 30 mins outside the City but at the moment I am in the UK for 2 months then California for 2 months, living between the two as my GF is from San Francisco and recently relocated back there for a new job. Shit's exciting! :D

These days I think the Lord Clifden is probably one of the best remaining authentic pubs in Birmingham!

There are a few others but that place is pretty special. Bacchus by the train station in the center of town is also good, meant to be the oldest pub in Birmingham I believe but can't confirm if their Guinness is as good as Clifden's! Maybe have to put it to the test! Maybe I will join ya if I am around!
