Cheers Everyone. I hope you all had a great week.
Today's Beer Saturday selection features chelada, my cold beer.
I wasn't sure what chelada meant so I had to look it up. There's a couple wiki's about it and other websites for recipes and inspiration. Basically, it's Beer with a couple more ingredients added to it for flavor and spice.
I found this clip from beeradvocate.com
“Chelada” is slang, short for the Spanish word “Michelada,” which many debate is derived from the phrase “mi chela helada”—in English, “my cold beer.” Both fall into a general category called “cerveza preparada,” or prepared beer, in which juices, sauces and spices are mixed with beer to make a beer cocktail—sacrilege to some, tasty as hell to others! While both terms seem to be applied to a wide range of beer cocktail variations, Cheleda has become even less specific than Michelada, which are one in the same."
That's the definition were going with.
So now that we (I) have a working definition, let's talk about
My Chelada
This lime and salt chelada is one of my favorite combos. You could say it tastes similar to a margarita but it definitely misses the sweetness and the unique flavor of tequila. According to it's maker Modelo and some other websites, this recipe is the closest version yet to a traditional Mexican michelada.
Cerveza de Modelo
This really is a refreshing beer. I know it seems counterintuitive with the fact that it's alcohol and a good amount of salt, but it has enough lime to balance out the initial punch of salt. Then the Modelo unique beer flavor finishes the sip.
A unique chelada and a fun prepared #beer.
What experience do you all have with michelada/chelada recipes?
Any other chelada stories welcomed.
Cheers and happy #beersaturday
