After an intense weekend of knowledge assessments for a position in the Portuguese public sector, I found myself in need of a well-earned break. Where better to unwind than in a brewery? For practical reasons, I chose Golden Draak, a cozy beer haven in Parque das Nações, Lisbon.
I settled into the warm atmosphere, my mind still buzzing from the past few days of tests and lack of sleep. To celebrate the end of this mental marathon—and before leaving Lisbon—I ordered a 1784 Belgian Lager: a crisp, golden-hued beer with a delicate balance of malty sweetness and subtle bitterness. This lager was refreshingly smooth, with a light body and just enough effervescence to keep things interesting. Each sip was much appreciated, making it the perfect post-exam companion.
Of course, no great beer experience is complete without a snack. I opted for a serving of golden, crispy French fries drenched in garlic sauce—a simple yet indulgent pairing that perfectly complemented the beer’s clean, refreshing finish.
As I sat there, watching the big city pulse with the Tagus River in the background, I felt a sense of relief and quiet satisfaction. The weekend had been a challenge, but in that moment, with a great beer in hand and the hum of Lisbon’s waterfront in the background, it all felt worth it.

You can visit the Vasco da Gama Shopping Center and stop by the brewery, catch a concert at the MEO Arena, take a ride on the cable car for stunning river views, or explore marine life at the Lisbon Oceanarium. Whether you're celebrating or simply unwinding, there’s always something to do—and a cold 1784 Belgian Lager waiting for you at Golden Draak.
