Beer, Distinguished Gentlemen & Bikes!!
Today was the day of the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride, which is a worldwide charity bike ride for men's health awareness, with the emphasis on prostate cancer. Our merry band of classic BMW riders decided to join the ride. The starting point for this ride was in Johannesburg, but being from Pretoria, we met at 6:45 at a local filling station. We were 7 riders all on classic BMW's ranging from 1958 to 1981 models. (6 of the bikes were older than 1969!!) On the photo below, we made a quick pit-stop, to stretch our legs.
On the next two photos below you can see some of the 800 strong crowd gathering at the starting point in Johannesburg.
Below we are departing to the oldest bar / club in Johannesburg.
Below you can see the nice staircase at the entrance of the club, as you can see this place has a real old-school charm.
Below you can see some of the people having a great time in the club.
Below you can see some of the bikes from the first story, bikes were parked in all directions around the club.
The photo below shows the outside of this magnificent building. After having a nice cold beer, we hit the road to the military museum where we took a group photo. (I had a Windhoek Draft on which I did a post before, thus I will not write about this particular beer)
Below is the monument at the military museum, where the group photo was taken, I don't have a photo of the group as I was in the photo!! We gathered on the stairs and grass in front of the monument for the photo.
Then we hit the road to Melrose Arch, which is an area consisting mostly of restaurants, pubs and some boutique type shops, after parking we headed straight to a nice little pub. Below you can see the on tap section, it looks very nice with the the brass mounted taps!!
I decided to go for the Punk Rockers Pale Ale brewed by Poison City Brewing in Durban. It just sounded right for the occasion!!
Below you can see a bit more of the bar area and the barman performing his trade!!
Below you can see the fruit of the barman's labor, two perfect beers - nice - look at the condensation on that glass!!
To top it all of the beer had a very nice big white foamy head!!
Below you can see a bit more of the corner we occupied.
This beer was again an excellent craft beer, it did not have a very strong malt taste and also was not very bitter, this one is a real easy drinking beer, I would say this is a good beer to use as introduction to people who are not used to craft beers.
Below you can see the selection of craft beers this pub offers. I loved the beer, but must say this was the most expensive beer that I had in my life at R65.00 a beer, which equates to around $5.00.
We did a round trip of about 130 km, with no problems for the entire route!! We had a great time and enjoyed ourselves a lot, with great bikes and good friends and excellent beers in beautiful weather, what more can one ask for.

I am a classic BMW fan, thus I loved them, there was also a very nice Honda 750K all original, with the original 4 exhaust pipes which I liked, similar to the one on the photo.

Then there were some very nice old Vespa scooters as well as some old English bikes like Triumphs which were beautiful. There were also quite a lot of modern bikes although this is supposed to be for older bikes.

you had an amazing day with the bikers :D
We had a great time.
I loved the day, thanks for the company
Yes me too, thanks for the great time.
Really awesome post, and a great cause! My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer several years ago, so your cause definitely resonates with me. Amazing that so much money has been raised!
The beer looks good, but I have to say that I would consider $5 a relative bargain for that kind of beer now that I live in Norway, where every beer costs at least $10 at the bars, and a beer of that caliber would probably be $13-15. Crazy eh?
Yes, it is crazy, for $15.00 I want a case of regular commercial beers!!
Great work so this is nice to see )
Thank you very much.
@rynow - Oh my goodness, it looks fantastic Sir. Love that event & hope to see more photography of it Sir.

You are right, the guy on the red one, actually also have an old one, but his old one did not want to start in the morning, that sometimes happens with these old bikes.
