BACK FROM VACATION! To celebrate week 271 of #beersaturday, I will bring you with me to a cottage brewery for a pint or 2!
As we all know, being The Blockchain Beerologist definitely has its perks, including but not limited to getting paid to tour breweries and sample new beers! When I am not globetrotting or brewing my own beer, my fridge looks like a colorful mosaic of regional craft beer I enjoy sharing with the #beersaturday alliance of #beer bloggers on #hive.
This week, we head into the Halliburton Highlands for some cottage craft beer.
The PotW is plenty of fun because it is usually a beer enjoyed on the town or otherwise in a social / business setting that we is a bit of a treat. This week, it is extra special because it is in my happy place.
I will probably get more into this beer story next week but it relates to today's brewery tour being in the same area. We brewed this ourselves and trucked it up in kegs with CO2 for a week of cottage beer. I know you are going to want to tune in next week as this 5.9% NEIPA earned the name Santa's Pubes. Tune in next week for craft cottage Canadiana.
Boshkung Brewery!
While travelling, I love to visit the local craft brewery. When up in the Haliburton Highlands for a week at a cottage, I just had to pop in to Boshkung Brewery for a couple pints and some pub snacks.
Apparently, they have a couple other locations in Haliburton including a smoke house restaurant and marina patio. This time, we are visiting the Boshkung Social in Minden, Ontario. You can see the neat old small town wooden shack with a big old patio and food truck working as the kitchen.
We snagged ad picnic table on the patio and enjoyed the art on the rustic wall.
Can I Start You with a Drink?
The reason I am here is because this is a craft brewery so you certainly can! Looking at the Draft Beer menu, it boasts pretty much every style of beer most people can name. Ales and lagers and IPAs and pilsners, Kellerbier, a touts and all the rest.
We opted for a pitcher of Blairhampton Triangle IPA Classic 3-finger grip on this one that was actually from the bottle shop to give you an idea what to look out for on the shelf of your beer store if you they have access to and game enough to order for you.
This is what they looked like all poured out on draft from a pitcher. The first pour was a little conservative but I think I managed to nail mine in the foreground. Nice and hazy with a dark golden hue that hints at a good malt body. Awesome core IPA I would buy again at a local store.
Pub Grub!
We started with these super crispy and mildly spicy jalapeno poppers. We were not here for the healthiness of the menu but the savory snacks.
This is a brisket sandwich which which is a small as it is tiny!
I scored myself a pulled pork sandwich which looks like it wiped out before it reached me but was yummy enough.
Here we have the Pitboss Poutine which retailed for $13 and featured fries, cheese curds, gravy, brisket, pulled pork, chipotle mayo and pickles. Equally delicious but pricy.
Last but not least we have the Bacon-wrapped scallops which are little bites of decadence. Again, a little of an indulgence in celebration of #beersaturday 271.
The Brewery
Inside, there was actually no seating this evening. Not that you would want to sit inside when the patio was so big and the weather is summer. A giant serving station and the numerous servers brought the good out to the people enjoying the outdoors.
The boat full of mug club members mugs looked quite solid. When Hive reaches $10, I will become a mug club member at every craft brewery I visit and hold the record in the name of #hive.
One of the best things phases of a brewery visit is a tour through the bottle shop so that you can head home and extend the tour. There were only cans available but again in so many different styles that it was like a beer playground. I picked a 4-pack of a couple different IPAs and another 4 to bring back to the brewing collective for sampling. Beer and Stories is a plan we have in development and I will bring it to Hive including a few well-known #beerologists here.
Thank you for joining me on a visit to Boshkung Brewery!
#BEERSaturday!
Beer goggles and beer glasses. I have them both.
Join me, @detlev , and the other beerologists because there is always room for more beer bloggers at this week's Beer Saturday gathering... https://hive.blog/hive-187719/@detlev/beersaturday-371
Looks like a fun time.
Great selection of beers on the menu and the food looks delicious. I think I'd try the Black Rock Dark Ale. That one sounds really good to me.
Enjoy the cottage country!
Yah I brought a mixed 4-pack back to the brewing team who prefer malty beers. The amber, stout, dark and rye. Maybe I will have him pick his favourite and feature it as a guest potw.
Greetings @zekepickleman ,
What a delightful post....thank you for the tour and refreshments. Looks a splendid place to enjoy a beer and tasty menu items.
