How many #beersaturday sessions stretch into Sunday? Well this one did so #sublimesunday is as good a day as any to share some BEER stories.
Beer blogging comes naturally to me due to years spent brewing for myself and restaurants, working with breweries on their technology & marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist doing my best to consume, report and even brew to do that title justice.
This week, am pinting/painting and visiting a couple tap rooms in the big city!
Pint O' the Week!
Usually, the pint of the week is a nice draft out at a local pub during the week. Sometimes it is a nice short can I keep in the fridge for those times where a small, limited-edition beer is the best. This week, beer reflects work as find it is great painting fuel!
You can see in the background that I am into some mudding and sanding, priming and painting, launching a new business office for @town-crier. I will tell the story of the launch of our new global headquarters when we complete everything but it is great to be right across the street from a brewery! https://blackswanbrewing.ca/ This juicy pale ale didn't even make it home to my fridge as painting is indeed thirsty work. Quehl Pale ale takes its namesake from one of the brewers and the nest is symbolic of the hops style. I will buy more of this for the fridge while it is available as it makes a perfect shorty.
Planetary Cold IPA
I had the chance to visit Henderson Brewing Company https://hendersonbrewing.com/ on my last trip into the big city. They have always had a good IPA or 2 and are a regular stop when heading to a session at my brother's place.
This is the popular taproom where locals come to be seen for bonus hipster points and have a pint or 3. I didn't have much time to hang out as it was a couple 6-packs from the fridge to go I was after.
As good as the Pearson Express Toronto-style IPA https://hendersonbrewing.com/beer/peipa/ is, how happy was I to find a Cold IPA in the fridge? I grabbed 6 of each and headed to hot-tubville to neck a couple of these babies!
Planets Cold IPA would have been branding enough to inspire me to take some home but seeing Galaxy hops in the mix made it a 100% go. The story on the can has very little to do with the beer itself except for the name but there are only so many good ideas around to brand a good IPA....which are plentiful. Apparently, a roller defunct hockey league from 3 decades ago is inspiration enough and "I find stopping is very hard" was compelling enough to make it on the label.
As obscure as the labeling and story are, this beer is delicious! It won't make it onto the shelves out here so I was happy one of them made it home to my fridge and was sampled in my exclusive tastery. Another delicious Galaxy beer, of which I am sure I have never tasted a bad one!
We've Got Moxee!
On that same trip, except heading out of town, I had the chance to visit perhaps my favourite brewery https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/ Great Lakes Brewery. I think it is Lake Effect IPA https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/lake-effect-ipa/ that started my slippery slide into IPA obsession and buy this whenever it is in season. Whenever I get the opportunity to visit the bottle shop in person, I ALWAYS come away with delicious IPAs and this one is no different.
Being possibly my favourite brewery, Meanwhile Down in Moxee https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/meanwhile-down-in-moxee-ipa/ is possibly my favourite beer from here. They have refined the branding a little but have the same awesome El-Dorado hoppy goodness New England Style IPA. Hazy, bold and sweeter at the end without sacrificing the bitterness. The ZLOMK of hops makes this beer jump off the shelf into my basket and spends very little time in the fridge before making the Blog.
Probably in my top 10, I love me some fresh Moxee!
#BEERSaturday!
When you can't get to a Beer Park in person, you are always welcome to join Zeke's Sweet Hops and have a beautiful pint with me via the blockchain. Regardless, I would recommend you warm up your liver and join @detlev and I at https://hive.blog/hive-187719/@detlev/beersaturday-302 for this week's #beersaturday post. Grab a pint and join in the fun with a beer story of your own.
This week for #BeerSaturday, I would like to invite my new friend @grindan who may not be ready to chug pints with us so I may have to drink her share. Take a few pictures, tag #beersaturday and raise a glass with us on Hive!
Cheers! I have to say that Canadians are much braver than Europeans when it comes to designing cans. 😎🍻
Braver or stupider? Probably a little bit of both. It seems they are passionate about beer and not so much about branding with the noisy colour barfed all over some of these cans.
To stand out on the shelf nowadays, I think some might consider plainer branding now! Great beer though.
Beers!
A man of few words. TROO!
As someone who go es to a lot of breweries these look like great spots! I’m just now getting back into ipas since the weather is getting nicer.
The nicer the weather for me, the lighter an IPA I seek. Heavy doubles and imperials in the winter a bit more.
Looking forward to stretching the range this year for some far away brewery tours!
Enjoy your summer IPAs!

The beers look great, man. Have one for me! You've been working so hard lately, it might have been delayed until Sunday. I love the color of the cans.
Ah I wasn’t sure what was going to happen here. I thought someone was mixing craft beers with Moxee and I was going to see how awful or amazing it turned out. Do they even still make moxee? Lol.
Looks like some delicious beers man! Definitely my favorite with the IPA’s but I’m going to stick my neck out there and try some other porters as I recently enjoyed!
Hey Zeke :) thanks for the invite! I always wondered what the qualifications for #beersaturday were! I have two youngins, so I normally enjoy a pint or two (or seven) at home hehe! Now that I know I don't need a cool outing story, I'll share some of my picks next week! I live near Cleveland, Ohio and we sure do love small batch beer around here. 😁 Cheers !LUV
