Behind the Curtain with the Renegades

in #behindthecurtain7 years ago (edited)

Last month, @freedomtowrite invited me, Mrs. Canadian Renegade, to participate in a new challenge she created: #behindthecurtain. She wants to know where everyone is Steemin' and what their favourite spot looks like.

I accepted the challenge, but then life happened. Days passed, then weeks, until finally a month had flown by. The challenge arrived while the mister and I were dog sitting. We took the opportunity to watch Rico at his digs, also known as, my parents place. This would put Matt a little closer to his work and give the whole family a little extra leg room.

Well, a week later we decided to move in. With the arrival of the twins our family had doubled in size overnight and, the unfortunate reality is, we've outgrown the tiny house. We always do our best to stick to the plans we set out for ourselves, but we've also learned to roll with the punches. So we've been busy moving.

Now, I don't know that I have a particularly favourite spot where I Steem but I have definitely Steemed in a lot of different spaces. Let's take the tour!

Loft Space

When we were still in the tiny house, this was my workspace. At the end of the day, I'd climb up the the loft, and set up my desk, which was essentially turning over the now vacant bassinet and setting my computer on top of it. When you're living tiny, without any extra storage space, you make due with what you have.

Office

When my parents were away, Matthew claimed my dad's office which was complete with a world map and a palm tree. Pretty fancy... Here you could find him, writing, responding, curating, and apparently raging! This room is pretty cozy, and close enough in proximity to sleeping babies so that we could hear if they stirred while we worked.

Front Room

And if Matt was in the office, and the babies were sleeping, I'd be in there too. There was an over-sized chair across from the desk where I could settle down into with a warm blanket. I enjoy Matt's company so wherever he chose to Steem I was Steemin' too.

Massage Chair

Unless I needed a massage, that is. Ain't she a beaut? That's right, here you'll find me Steemin' in a freaking massage chair. Why didn't we move in with my parents sooner? Let's face it, after a long day of chasing babies, mama could use a massage.

Basement

Now that may parents are home though, we're now Steemin' in the basement. We've taken over the downstairs and you can find us sharing a table with my moms 1000 piece puzzle while we work. It's not so bad though. We've watched a few hockey games, while punching away at the keyboard. And, yes, sometimes we have a fizzy beverage or two while we're creating (it's what makes us so interesting).

Game Face
Game faces on!

So now for my nominations...
I'm very interested to see where @crowbarmama, @trucklifefamily, @minismallholding, @karenfoster, and @powellx5 do there Steemin'.

Thanks for exploring our Steemin' Spaces!

Until next time, Renegades out!

Thanks for doing the challenge!! I can't believe it's only been a month! It feels like forever ago!

I'm so happy you guys are liking your new living situation...too bad they had to come home and take back the office and massage chair...parents! 😂 And Aimee, I love your haircut!

Only a month? I find it interesting how the perception of time can feel so different to different people just by what's happening in their lives. When I finally sat down to write this post and I checked the date on your post I was in shock! I could hardly believe so much time had passed by. I know, taking back the massage chair? The nerve of it! 🤣 Thanks! I am enjoying this hair cut too! I was tired of the messy mom hair. It was long, grab-worthy, and never done! Apparently, doing a cute messy bun actually takes skill that I don't possess. So I just chopped it all off. - Aimee

I don't know how you didn't utterly lose your mind in a tiny house with twins. I just about lost mine (I'm shuddering at the memory of twin infancy) even though I had the space to walk miles around the living room with fussy babies in the wee hours!

I didn't realize you were a twin mama! Or if I did know that, my fried mom-brain temporarily forgot. I love connecting with other twin mamas.

There were many reasons why we left the tiny house and going a little insane with twins in a tiny space was one of them. I felt like I was constantly rearranging our space throughout the day. The main area was living room/dining room/baby bedroom. I was pulling their highchairs in and out of the loft and three times a day! 😬 Then when we wanted to work or relax in the evening we were tiptoeing around. Doing dishes or laundry with awake babies is hard, and I couldn't do it with them sleeping either because the water pump was so loud. I did a lot while they were sleeping but the pump would eventually disturb them enough.

I shudder at twin infancy and I am still in it! I always wanted 3 or 4 kids but I am on the fence now because the thought of having a second set of twins terrifies me.

How old are your twins now? Are they identical or fraternal? Boys, girls, both? I am so curious! -Aimee

The fried brain thing doesn't go away, I'm a living testimony to that :))) You're not the first twin mom I've seen say they might change their mind about more kids because they're terrified of a second set of twins, lol. Frankly, I didn't enjoy the infant stage one bit (well, ok, maybe a little but nowhere near enough to voluntarily do it again) till they got to the walking/talking age! Mine are boy/girl and they're 4 years old now. How old are yours and are they identical or fraternal?

I love toddler and preschool age twins though, it's the best. The Husband and I feel like it's the kid-raising equivalent of retirement...we put in all the blood sweat and tears up front keeping them alive as babies and now we can kind of kick back and enjoy them. It definitely does get better!

This is why I love connecting with twins mom's. I feel such relief knowing I am not alone in the craziness. I like hearing there is a light at the end of the tunnel, or retirement. That really cracked me up! Four years old sounds like a fun age. We also have boy/girl! Do you fine yours are close? Ours are just starting to really interact with each other but they are total opposites. Our son is more cautious and analytical and our daughter just dives into everything head first. Her first attempt at stairs she climbed a huge staircase, while I son cautiously tried two steps and then decided Nope, not for me just yet. -Aimee

Ours are extremely close, though Pixie has always been much more dominant, and recently I'm starting to observe more squabbles since Little Man has figured out how to push her buttons, which he thinks is hilarious. It's kind of the same dynamic my younger sister and I had growing up; I was more bossy and she'd do something to set me off and then sit back and giggle deviously. My mom literally has it on cassette tape :-)))

They are POLAR OPPOSITES too. They don't look at all alike and don't act it either, so you'd never think they were even siblings, let alone twins. Pixie is 100% practical and Little Man is 100% imaginative, to oversimplify it :)

It's really funny because I know two moms with sets of fraternal boy twins that still look nearly identical and are difficult to tell apart personality-wise too. I also have a friend with boy/girl siblings that look exactly like each other. And then here I am with the kids that people will ask their ages, and when I answer "they're 4" the people are completely surprised: "Oh?! They're twins? Oh wow!" The upside is not getting the annoying twin-related commentary and questions right and left ;-)

Hahaha you could have done just a messy bun! Wait...that was my everyday before I decided to dread mine! 😂 Yeah...it's hard to keep up with hairstyles and put time into it!

Well, I'm so glad, that even after ao many life changes happen for you that you remembered the challenge!

For me, I cannot find a great or perfect spot to Steem. I think it really depends on the mood and whether I'm bothered to sit at a desk or just feeling lazy on a couch. Though, it's very interesting to see that your working environment is very relaxing and laid back.

I agree, it's hard to have a favourite spot because our mood changes day-to-day. Our spaces are a little more laid back where we are now, they were a little more awkward in the tiny house. Matt was using a folding table and chair for a while since it was easy to take out and pack away. -Aimee

Eeeek! Not sure anyone needs to see the state of our place at the moment. I've also been known to steemit in the bath and that's probably not a picture you want to see!! 😰

We'll be having a blitz of the house tomorrow, ready for Easter, so I'll have to see if I can find some time after the break.

Ha ha! That's how I felt about the tiny house most of the time. Eek! And hey, I took a month to get my challenge done so don't feel too much pressure. Steemin' in the tub, eh? I had a sneaking suspicion you'd be a great nominee! -Aimee

Hey, I want to connect with you off steemit. I looked you up on https://steemit.chat/ but it seems you have not signed up there. Steemit.chat is a place where steemers can connect and chat in a messenger type platform, there are also a bunch of different groups to share your posts with. When you sign up use your steemit name so people can find you. If you sign up add me @solarguy.

I have a some off grid living questions for you. I will return to Canada this summer from 6 years in China, man I miss home and the wilderness. I think you will be interested in what I have to chat about. Or maybe you can tell another way to connect with you.

Hey, sorry I didn't respond sooner, we're been a little busy lately. I thought I made a steemit chat account but maybe I didn't I will check later. We are on discord with the same name though. I would be happy to connect, answer question, and see what you are thinking.

Love this @canadianrenegade! I Steem at home too. But I happen to float around the house in different places :) This #behindthecurtain challenge is great.

Speaking of challenges, I just started a new challenge called #flowerphotochallenge where people can post photos of their flowers they're growing at home. Hope you share something :)

I am glad you enjoyed the post! I ditched the idea of my favourite place to Steem because it changes day-to-day. Plus, smart phones make being connected so accessible.

The #flowerphotochallenge sounds great and I am looking forward to seeing what others are sharing. Unfortunately, between moving in with my folks and building a house we won't have a garden this year. Truthfully, I've neglected my indoor plants a lot this year with the arrival of the twins. If I'm able to post my favourite flowers from the greenhouse I would be happy to jump in. Although, I do have a cactus that could potentially bloom later this year. 😊 -Aimee

Hey canadianrenegade , I am building my own top 10 posts from steemit and I want to pick one of your posts to be part of my list!

For the moment I do not know if I will choose your post or this one: https://stееmit.com/@dominikboecker/don-t-just-be-inspired-be-inspirational

Do you think you can make a better article, to beat this one?
