Xunantunich is an Ancient Maya archaeological site in western Belize, about 70 miles (110 km) west of Belize City, in the Cayo District. Xunantunich is located atop a ridge above the Mopan River, well within sight of the Guatemala border – which is a mere 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) to the west.
We were allowed to walk/climb up onto the larger structures because they were more stable and safe for us. It's truly amazing to see how much this civilization was capable of without the means which we have today. Their precision and accuracy was incredible and still baffles modern science today.
Iguanas have made it their home in and on top of the ruins and can be seen resting on top of rocks sunbathing.
It is such an amazing place with great energy and beautiful surroundings. If given the chance, one should absolutely consider visiting Belize. There is so much to the small "Jewel" in the Caribbean. I hope you enjoyed and good luck to all my fellow Steemers!
Amazing details in their architecture!
