I’m starting to learn about benefits in the USA as my mother is already on pension and is slowly becoming less mobile. It’s not just the money transfers, but things like handicapped parking.

I can't imagine there are too many benefits in the US...?
There are all kind of benefits such as healthcare, disability, food assistance, and even some cash benefits for low income families. Insurance is subsidized.
In Texas we even freeze property tax for people over age 65. If they can’t pay, their property is not taken, although the balance continues to increase and will likely result in tax forfeiture when they are deceased.
Veterans get even more benefits such as free healthcare and disability payments.
Of course, it’s quite the chore to apply and receive any. There are consultants and attorneys who specialize in these things.
