You might be aware that I did a lot of gaming, mainly Witcher 3 on my holiday, but I wasn't laying on my chair the whole holiday, no, not all.
I collected meself some berries!
There's a proverb in Finnish that "[insert an act] is as easy as collecting berries", but let me tell you, if you want to gather any substantial amount of them, you'll have to spend hours crouching on the ground. With bilberries my picking rate is about a 1 liter per hour (the bucket above is 5 liters, I think, and it took 5 hours to fill) and that is now when the bilberries are big. I wouldn't say I'm the fastest but I think I'm decently nifty with the picking by now.
A lot of people I see bend their back instead their legs while picking things up, but I don't think that's the ideal way – look at the children, they always squat when they pick something up from the ground. We silly adults just become "civilized" and stop crouching on the ground when we grow up, except slavs, they don't care. Don't be too civilized, be like slav.
You might feel it on your legs first, but that's just because you have most likely sat most of your life on chair without doing anything with your legs most of the day. It'll get easier, and your back will thank you, mine does at least – even though it still gets its own share of the work. Your legs will get a good workout too, trust me, and they'll gain mobility!
Some of the blueberries were jammed!
One day me and my dad went to a farm nearby to collect some strawberries. Good thing he got me with him because I picked way more than him!
The farm is in a peculiar location, just 2 kilometers away from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, so frequently there are big planes making an approaching flight just over the strawberry fields to land to the airport.
That must be only few dozen meters from the ground.
I found some raspberries too in the woods which are also getting done by now. Mostly they are just a treat of an occasion because they aren't as common as bilberries.
I had to google bilberries! I didn’t know that our blueberries are actually bilberries in english, that’s cool! I wonder how polluted the strawberries are when they are that close to the airport 😝
Yeah, @apsu told me that bilberry is "mustikka" or "metsämustikka" and blueberry is actually "pensasmustikka", so there's a difference if it grows in the woods in twigs or in a bush.
Ehh... there's more shit on those from the pesticides probably so I'm not too worried.
Bilberries oli kyllä itsellekin uusi termi. Pitää olla vissiin kaupungista kotoisin, että on huolissaan luonnossa kasvavien marjojen puhtaudesta :P?
Päinvastoin, niin maalta kun olla ja voi. Kuha lähinnä pohdin ääneen, ei mua niin kiinnosta oikeesti. Jos hyvää ruokaa tippuu pöydän alle niin syön sen sieltä kyllä ja on mulla suussa ollu varmaan aika likasiakin asioita.
😁 Mitään likasta en ajatellut – vannon! Ei mut kyl mäkin ruuan lattialta syön jos ei kirjaimellisesti paskaa ole ruokana.
Käsittääkseni ainakin sieniin voi saasteet kasaantua, joten niitä kannattaa poimia vähintään 100 metrin päästä julkisista liikenneväylistä, mutta en ole kuullut ettäkö vastaavaa ongelmaa olisi marjojen kanssa.
Upupupvote... Toivoin että olisin saanut pikkuäänelläni tuon tällä hetkellä olevan $0.99 nousemaan kokonaiseen yhteen, mutta eihän se sinne suostunut nousemaan.

Upeaa työtä! Eikö olekin mukavaa tehdä noinkin ikiaikaista hommaa kuin poimia marjoja metsässä. Pitää kyllä itsekin käydä poimimassa satoa, sen verran inspiroivia kuvia.

Kyllä itselläni ainakin sisäinen metsästäjä-keräilijä aktivoituu kivasti – "okei, oisko tässä tarpee... UIJUI niin hyvä spotti, että pakko kerätä vielä nuo!" Rauhoittavaa hommaa kanssa, saa pään aivan tyhjäksi kaikesta melusta ja turhanpäiväisestä (paitsi pääkaupunkiseudun laskevista ja nousevista lentokoneista), eräänlaista meditaatiota tuokin on.

You mean because of the sugar they contain? Well, they have some good vitamins and antioxidants in there so as long as you don't only consume berries you should be fine :D
