Gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa) is a fine garden berry that matures during the month of July.
They are good to eat directly from the bush, which both children and adults who have their own berries in the garden have done at all times.
Otherwise, they can be used for jam and juice. Often they are also mixed with other berries.
Picking them can be a small challenge. Notice the pointy tags that one can stick to when picking these good berries.
Also, note the little hairs that are on these berries. These are old species that are sweet and good in taste. These old varieties are not as popular in commercial operations today as they do not have such large crops and are more susceptible to diseases a modern variety that has resistance to some of these diseases and has large crops.
But the taste of these old gooseberries is unbeatable.
I will try to take photos of gooseberries when they are mature. The colours of the berries can vary a lot from yellow to green and red.
As a child, I did not like gooseberries fresh, because of such hairs on berries, then, I did not understand anything. But today, I know, the difference between the old and new varieties, the original is always tastier than its selection clone. Gooseberry jam, one of my favorite jams. Thank you, my Dear friend @Siggjo, you gave us a little summer! Good night to you!
Thank you for your comments @Barski
I see that you also like the old varieties best.
At home with us, we called these gooseberries for hairy berries, and they were always our favourite.
