I've created my own using this logo as an example. Perhaps I should tweak it a bit more so that looks less like the original.

This goes beyond the inspiration or as you say "used it as an example". I can share examples where logos take inpiration feom each other but have their own charm, but this is a clear copycatting and in a professional community it's called stealing. If a contest holder picks it,
