In 2017, I visited Israel, Palestina and Jordan and will share here some of my pictures from Biblical places related to our Savior Jesus Christ and some other major Biblical characters and events.
Our last stop was Mount of Temptation near Jericho and today, we will visit town Cana in Galilee where Jesus performed His first miracle. The picture below shows the town from west, from the Nazareth direction, close to town Mashhad. Pictures are not much bright due to cloudy weather those days.
Cana (Kafr Kanna)
- location: about 10 kilometers north-east from Nazareth, 25 km west from Sea of Galilee
- name origin:
- village of Kanna
- one root of the name Kanna in Hebrew means to acquire or to create
- importance:
- Jesus performed His first miracle here turning water into wine on a wedding
- hometown of apostle Nathanael
- personal observations:
- town specialized to wine and weddings (surprisingly)
- relatively small (about 21 thousand people)
- semi-muslim (70%) and semi-christian (30%) population
- water from Cana stays water these days, if you want wine, you must buy it
Bible references
Old testament
The border went out from Tappuah westward to the Brook Kanah, and it ended at the sea. This was the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim according to their families.
-- Joshua 16:8
New testament
Jesus said to them, "Fill the water pots with water." They filled them up to the brim. He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the ruler of the feast." So they took it. When the ruler of the feast tasted the water now become wine...
-- John 2:7-9
