The Ancient One - PART ELEVEN

I lay on my back as I watched the Ibadan night sky, whispering the comforting nursery rhyme to myself. It was two weeks after my first death. The world had returned to normal. Well if you count a world with an insane demon running around in it as normal. I had broken up with Kemi. I mean, she literally had a hand in my death. When Lil Kesh said "Bitches be crazy" he was definitely on to something.

I sighed. My Dad had told me to find the others. Others like me. Ibadan by my standards was a big place not to talk of the whole freaking world! I dusted myself off and walked to the edge of the roof. My house was a three-storey building with a short fence. I stood at the edge of the roof a moment longer, contemplating the fall down. Then I took another step off the roof into empty space and fell.

... and walked past the Pepsi stand at the Student Union Building inside the University of Ibadan. I had been hearing for a few days now that there was a raving party to be held at the SU building tonight. I thought I'd try my luck and see if I could get a chick for the night. The music was loud and very audible even before I got anywhere close to the entrance. I entered the Foyer and I saw disco lights washing over everyone dancing there. Well, maybe dancing was too polite a word to call what they were going there. Basically the front end of every guy "dancing" was superglued to the back end of the female he was dancing with as they "rocked" to the music.

"Great" , I muttered.

Free palmwine was being shared to everyone and I went to the keg stand to get mine. As I bent the keg to pour my drink I heard a commotion behind me. I poured my drink and turned to watch the disturbance, taking a cool long drink from my cup. From what I could see it appeared a girl was fucking up. Fucking up meaning she was not interested in letting a random guy superglue his... What the hell, you know what I'm trying to say already.

Apparently, this behavior from the girl was deemed too "uncool" for this kind of party and the other boys began to crowd her in support of her male partner. The ruckus began to get rowdy and the thought of blasting them apart crossed my mind. But only once. I was supposed to keep a low key. The commotion was getting more heated and I could hear the shrill voice of the girl as she fought to have her say among the baritone male voices crowding her out. Then there was a flash. So fast and little that if I hadn't had heightened senses I wouldn't have noticed it. The guys milling around the girl were looking confused as they searched around but couldn't find her.

I was surprised. Then I began to smile. I was sure, not because of the the flash she made when she disappeared, but the thrum that responded in my blood when she activated her powers. What were the odds? Another ancient one. I took another sip of the palm wine before I dropped the cup mid-sip. I was on my bed in Agbowo before the cup landed, splashing it contents at SUB.
