"Leadership is practised not so much in words as in attitude and in actions." - Harold S. Geneen

Matt 10:42-44 (NIV)
42 So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.
Reading through the scriptures some days ago, there was an impression in my spirit to put together this that I'm writing now, to talk about the place of true love in leadership today. I was so thrilled as I read the above words of Jesus. These words made me come to see how great a leader Christ was, not only because His works are still speaking of Him till today or because He lived by what He preached and taught but more importantly because of the life of true love that was at the core of all He did. That was his driving force and the reason why He left such an impact on the lives of the people.
A lot of today's leaders today need to learn from Jesus the things He knew and practiced in His leadership style. Leaders today need to understand the significant place of true love in a leader's life. Sadly many leaders today at different government levels, in organizations, churches etc, think leadership is all about them. This is a very wrong thinking. Leadership is about you putting yourself after others. Leadership is about you being an example of sacrificial living. Leadership is all about serving others. If you have no interest in serving people, you are not fit to lead. Leadership isn't about you being served. It's often disheartening to see people when being asked to vote, cast in their votes for a particular presidential aspirant who has no quality of leadership in them. Some do it for a wide variety of reasons and do not even want to check their records to see if such people have lived exemplary and sacrificial lives in their previous roles as leaders. We can only be certain a person will deliver well on the job if they have had a track record of serving others.
All the good leaders I know who made admirable marks in history and who left their footprints in the sands of time, had a selfless and sacrificing aura that made lives a blessing to those they led. These leaders made themselves totally yielded to love for the people and were not driven by the greed of what they could get from them. Our leaders today can only make amazing impact the same way. You don't measure a leader's relevance by the size of their pocket, you measure a true leader by his selflessness. A true leader isn't aiming at enriching himself. Are you aspiring to be a leader? Then you must be willing to live a life solely based on true love. Otherwise you would be a catastrophe in the making. Good leadership starts with you, when you are able to live a life that leads you to the path of life and not a path of destruction. It is the life of Christ when accepted that has the capacity to do just that. Be wise my dear friend. Be the Jesus kind of leader.
