The beginnings of Leo Tolstoy
The author Leo Tolstoy is considered one of the giants of Russian literature during the 19th century. Tolstoy was born on September 9, 1828, in Iznaya Poliana, in Tula Province, Russia. Tolstoy grew up in his aristocratic family. His father was Count Nikolai Tolstoy, and his mother was Princess Volkonskaya, a Roryk dynasty, the first ruler of Russian history.Tolstoy's childhood had many tragedies; his mother died in 1830, and one of his father's relatives took care of the children. Only seven years later his father died. His aunt appointed a legal guardian for the children. After the aunt died, Tolstoy and his brothers moved to live with his second aunt in Kazan.Tolstoy received his primary education at home by French and German teachers. In 1843, he enrolled in the Oriental Language Program at Kazan University, but failed to show his academic superiority. He had to join the law program, but he did not stay long. Thus the situation continued until Tolstoy finally left Kazan University, without any university degree.Tolstoy then returned to his parents' home and decided to oversee the cultivation of the land there, but was unable to keep doing so because of his frequent social visits to Tula and Moscow. Thus, it soon turned out that he was not qualified to take over. While Tolstoy was preoccupied with his territory, his brother Nikolai returned home on a short vacation from the army and persuaded him to join him. Tolstoy agreed and traveled with him to his military unit in the Caucasus Mountains. In 1854, he moved to Sevastopol in Ukraine and participated in the Crimean War in 1855.
Leo Tolstoy's achievements
Tolstoy took advantage of some periods of peace while in the army, creating a story that tells his autobiography, "Childhood." In 1852, Tolstoy submitted the draft to The Contemporary, the most popular and widely circulated magazine, and was approved by the magazine's management to become Tolstoy's first published work. After that, Tolstoy began writing a story called "The Cossack," recounting his diary within his military unit, but did not complete it until after leaving the army.Surprisingly, Tolstoy managed to continue writing books even during the Crimean War; he succeeded in composing the novel "Childhood," a sequel to the novel "Childhood."He also expressed his views on the stark contrasts during the war in his series of stories called "The Stories of Sebastopol".As soon as the Crimean War ended, Tolstoy left the army and returned to Russia, where he discovered how prosperous his popularity was in the literary arena in Petersburg. However, because of his arrogance and stubbornness, he refused to join any school of thought, announced his embrace of anarchist philosophy, and then left for Paris in 1857, but he did not stay there long. He quickly returned to Russia to succeed in publishing his novel " Which is the third part of his autobiography. In 1862, Tolstoy published his first issue of the journal Yasnaya Polyana, and in the same year he married Sophia Andreevna Beres, the daughter of a doctor.Tolstoy, along with his wife and children, lived in his estate and spent most of the 1960s writing his brilliant novel War and Peace, which was first published in the Russian magazine Literary Messenger in 1865. Three years later, he published three other chapters, the last one.The novel received an unrivaled admiration from the public and the critics. Its events were a historical picture of Russia and Russian society during the Napoleonic wars. It also included three important chapters in which Tolstoy touched upon the laws of history, expressed his rejection of them, and made them ridiculous. After the overwhelming success of the novel War and Peace, Tolstoy wrote another famous novel, Anna Karenina. Although fictitious, the story draws some of Tolstoy's personal life, especially his relationship with his wife during the engagement period. The novel was published in batches from 1873 to 1877, and Tolstoy's revenues contributed to his wealth.Despite the great success of Anna Karenina's novel, Tolstoy suffered a spiritual crisis that amounted to depression. Tolstoy was busy trying to find answers to his questions about the meaning of life. He went to the Orthodox Church but found nothing to look for. Having deepened in the religious texts, he came to believe that the corruption of the Christian Church was pervasive and embraced new principles away from the beliefs of religion. And decided to publish those beliefs in a new magazine called "The Mediator".On the other hand, the Church did not turn Tolstoy's views away from the Church, and declared that he was deprived of his views. He did not stop there, he was also under surveillance by the secret police."The artist must be aware of the reality that delves into the most accurate details, and therefore we have in my opinion only one artist, Count Leo Tolstoy" Dostoevsky.
