Importance of the nervous system

Vertebrates are active animals that move through the environment in search of food.This ability to move willingly, sometimes with great speed, is due to the development of a system that is capable of capturing all types of environmental stimuli, analyzing, interpreting and responding to them through movements.For example, a deer in a savanna, when it sniffs in the air or visually notes the presence of a predatory carnivore or any other enemy immediately becomes alert and begins to flee from the enemy.

The predator, once located in its place through the same stimuli and tries to capture it, moving. As seen for animals, the perception and analysis of stimuli are essential to survival. The organs that perform these functions are intimately related to the nervous system.

Note: the human nervous system is made up of more than 10 billion neurons distributed between different nerve centers. This number of cells gives us an idea of ​​the complexity of this system

Coordinating function of the nervous system

It comprises two systems: the central nervous system, which coordinates the functions of the relationship of man and the vegetative or autonomous system, which coordinates involuntary life processes such as heartbeat, breathing, etc. The nervous system coordinates all the actions that man performs in daily life: walking, jumping, enjoying a beautiful landscape, hearing a pleasant musical melody, tasting. All body functions are regulated and controlled by this system. The glands secrete their products by a nervous system order; the organs of the digestive, respiratory, circulatory system, etc; they are coordinated by the nervous system.



The nervous system becomes the unifying and unifying unit of the body, which is exercised through two specific functions: receptor function and coordinating function.The central nervous system performs several functions, each of which is located in a different part:

Detector function: receives the stimuli that correspond to the senses sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.

Transmitting function: the nerves collect the information, process it and transmit the orders of action.

Coordinating function: receives and coordinates the stimuli and sends the orders to the organs and muscles of the body. It is done by the brain and in other cases by the brain

Brain

It is the most important part of the brain and as it is protected by the skull. The average volume of the man is about 1,500ml. The weight of the brain in man is 1,200 g, and in women 1,100, approximately. The total volume of the brain is not an index of intelligence, nor the relationship between the weight of the brain and the body. The brain is divided into two halves called cerebral hemispheres, separated by a large groove or interhemispheric fissure and joined at its base by a bridge of white matter called the corpus callosum and the trigone.

The surface or cerebral cortex has numerous folds called cerebral convolutions constituted by gray matter (formed by bodies or soma of neurons). The cerebral convolutions make it possible for man and other mammals to have a large surface of gray matter or cerebral cortex. The number and depth of these structures is related to the degree of evolution reached by the species.

Underneath the cortex, the brain is made up of white matter (axons of neurons) that connect the cerebral cortex to all areas of the body. In the lower part of the brain there are two bodies or gray substance zones called thalamus and hypothalamus. The thalamus seems to be the basic center of anger and pleasure. The hypothalamus is the center that controls body temperature, appetite and regulates water balance.

Importance of the HUMAN BRAIN .- Evaluates the data .- Realizes the plans that regulate the actions .- It elaborates, transmits and stores thoughts. - It makes connections of different information subjects so that as results connect us to the ideas, concepts, creations. Our brain never rests, it is active as we speak, we think, we solve problems, we remember and we receive stimuli that provoke acts
