both Walter Gilbert and Frederick Sanger for their contributions in determining sequences in DNA. The Maxam–Gilbert sequencing was the first widely adopted method for DNA sequencing, but the Sanger di-deoxy method became the predominant method. The 1980 Nobel prize was also awarded to Paul Berg for his studies on the biochemistry of DNA.
