After chasing some Iguanas, we found what I believe is a juvenile Green Heron fishing in a tree.
Although they can be found throughout Florida, I do not recall seeing one for myself in my part of North Florida.
It watched me carefully as I crept closer, but unlike most other wading birds, it didn't appear concerned.
I read that they will drop insects and items into the water from a perch above and then snatch fish when they inspect or engage what it dropped.
This Green Heron was in perfect position to do that. I wonder if I was not there whether it may have tried this trick?
With me very close it went right back to fishing.
Look at that expert deadeye stare into the water below.
I have to admit in this last picture it almost looks annoyed with me. I respectfully retreated so lunch could be served. Thank you my exotic friend!
