The Dance of the Club-winged Manakin (Machaeropterus deliciosus)

in #birds7 years ago

The Club-winged Manakin has the ability to produce sounds with its wings, an effect known as sonation. The male strikes its secondary wing feathers together more than 100 times per second to create a buzzing sound, which is used during courtship displays.

This video shows the dance of the Club-winged Manakin, recorded during a birding tour at Reserva Las Gralarias - Ecuador.
