The cryptocurrency exchange Circle has employed former Goldman Sachs executive Benedicte Nolens as head of global regulatory affairs and head of compliance for Europe and Asia branches to assist the company in navigating the murky waters of regulation as they plan to expand globally.
Benedicte who transferred from Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission worked as an executive director at Goldman Sachs for a decade. She was also formerly employed as a chief compliance officer at Credit Suisse.
Circle is one of the most well-funded blockchain start-ups, with investors including Goldman Sachs Group and Baidu. With a monthly global trading volume of $2 billion, the company have recently opened a new operation in Hong Kong and an office in Beijing.
Chief Executive, Jeremy Allaire told Business Insider in an interview. “We want to make sure we can work with businesses that want to launch a tokenized security, and we want to support them by providing platforms where they can do that,” Allaire also added. “We are making sure we have the products and the regulatory framework in place to support crypto-commodities but also these crypto-securities.”
Circle is one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges and acquired Poloniex last February.
