Decentralization was made to combat bank centralization (Jekyll Island shenanigans), the control is the autonomous system itself, which yes requires trust in that particular system as well as trust into the currency itself.
Medium of exchange? you mean a physical exchange? Digital exchange of this currency is evident between cold/hot wallets carrying crypto, but a physical means of exchange sure, there’s none of it, but that’s no different than debit cards, only difference being centralization (and obviously the dollar being the world reserve).
Volatility isn’t always bad. $NVDA’s annual volatility average is more than BTC’s and they both show great returns. The USD im pretty has an annual volatility of 7% +/-1.5%, which is steady sure, but not steady enough to remain a world reserve forever today because of the current geo-political affairs of China and BRICS, nonetheless the AI race.
Yes Trump wants that status absolutely, however he already has USD dominance, he’s about to get another 15M awarded to him for defamation lol. But no seriously if anything he’s aiming toward BTC dominance… why?… look at how much BTC the US has, have you ever questioned how they accumulated so much with only recently finding some value in it (only after BlackRock that is)? The answer is the seizure of criminal assets (Silk Road, Beam, etc.) and this was only possible under Trump.
I can see USD weakening for sure when considering all of this, but will it be “weak” in general, no.
