Please help me understand the mind of a Bitcoin Maximalist

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

So I saw this rly long, ranting twitterstorm yesterday that included this message:

Direct link:

Can someone please help me understand what someone is thinking when they say that it's "very stupid" to think that Bitcoin won't forever be the most successful token/blockchain and that a scenario where there are multiple useful tokens in existence is the worst thing that could happen.

I can't help but think that this style of thinking tends towards the religious side of things.

Now, I could be missing something huge. Bitcoin may be the only token and blockchain the world needs...but isn't this already being proved incorrect?

I realize that I post a lot of EOS, but I have 0 expectation that EOS will be the only token or that it can satisfy all of the unique desires of the emerging crypto economy.

How in the world does anyone still think this? I can better understand this type of thinking in 2011, but now...in 2018?

What gives?

Somewhere within the tweetstorm Giacomo posted a link to one of his talks. I watched all 45 mins of it (incl the Q&A session), just to come to grips with his statements.

I must say, he strikes me as an intelligent guy. But, I don't see many investors agree with most of his statements. After all, I think that where decentralized systems are a profitable opportunity they will be most succesfull.

Giacomo is into Bitcoin mainly for political reasons. I agree with you (and with Dan Larimer) that co-existence of many coins will be the future, but that spells nightmarish scenarios for the political influence of Bitcoin.

Just my .2 Steem :)

thanks for commenting. Here's those 2 Steem paid back in a comment upvote :)

A thinking person wouldn't say this; A religious person would. Additionally I think this article would do a great job explaining: https://www.dashforcenews.com/sorry-dash-youre-never-getting-love-bitcoiners

Most of the people who are left with BTC are the kind of people who are at least partially BTC maximalist. Most other people left the ship for better alternatives with brighter future.

First, I quickly digested the article cited, though I'm unsatisfied in the explanation of Dash, any more than the other cryptocurrency derivative that operates from some perspective on "Proofing" the token. As of yet, I find far few coins can tout much more than their initial concept offering, that too many, as it seems that the entire rat race of the vast cryptocurrency market cap seems like the Wild West.

I'm confident that one can boil about 90-95% of the cryptocurrency market to the simple principle of financial instruments to either garner or harness wealth, the few like STEEM, a ETH based token, operate as a utility for resources to either be traded or exchanges (i.e ¥£$, time does equal money). Otherwise, the practical mechanics of what Blockchain can really offer the world can be unlocked. But you be the judge:

"Right now, the cryptosphere doesn’t value [Dash.] It’s important to note that this will likely never change. Time will pass, [Dash] will become a more common payment system, process more transactions that the rest of the top ten coins combined, whatever the level of success, it won’t matter."

Cryptocurrency is only about money?
it won't matter

Thank you @ashe-oro for sharing this enlighting perspective!

Blockchain can be used for practically everything. "Currency" is only the easiest and most common application of it. BTW you might find this interesting:

I feel we've met again, did we have a conversation like this not too long ago?

"Blockchain that bitxch" is my motto for 2018. This video spoke to my soul, as long as the "currency" captures and categorizes value for our time. The thinking from on high is in all the right places, smart contracts for artists could help novices even secure commissions without going through the icky, damaging hustle of becoming a salesy pitchman.

Has @DakotaKaiser or anyone from @Earthnation/ @ensteemit seen this yet? The part on the master node comptroller-like position is really deep and I feel the designer and @dantheman could sit down and talk, but really it is up to us, WE THE PEOPLE to decide how we utilize this new, incredibly beneficial technology to good use.

Time is art. In Life, all we have is time, why not make art all the time?

I greatly resonate with this quote. We are all going to die someday and it's really the impact of our actions that matter. You are not going anywhere by blaming the darkness. you have to light at least a small lamp. blockchain technology is one such lamp. What we need is not to push away the commissions and middlemen but to streamline and automate the process.

https://museblockchain.com and https://www.po.et are two of my favorite projects because of this. BAT is also going to make advertising more private, cheap and rewarding by only taking a tiny cut and spreading the rest among the community.

I've also been a huge fan of what https://www.unrealengine.com has been doing for few years. I mean they released millions of dollars worth assets for free for the community to use to build other games. Everything is free until you make revenue (from that point you need to pay 5% of revenue as royalties)

My sentiments exactly. It's a currency and technology, not a religion.

always sharing very important post.i am a big fan of your blog.i am very happy to see his friends.but your all post very helpful for every steemians.because when i see your post i am learning alots of new thing..i think that, bitcoin is a gold coin in the world.thanks to sharing for all us..@ashe-oro

its just time to stop thinking

Haha
That is some weird thinking..
This guy needs to stop thinking it's not helping him

I realize that I post a lot of EOS, but I have 0 expectation that EOS will be the only token or that it can satisfy all of the unique desires of the emerging crypto economy.

EOS will be the only token as i can relate from the uprisings of the coin, it has got a great market cap

post a very remarkable i'm very happy to see his friends. friend help me if a time

Alt coin will never chase bitcoin ...
Bit coin is the gid of coins so dint take tension
Kindly follow me I follow you back

😂🤣😂🤣

Did someone fail Free Market 101?
There are options. To deny that is foolishness.

Didn't think this kind of thinking would exist in the cryptoverse...

I agree that it's a fairly myopic way to look at things. Perhaps when people are comfortable enough with crypto, we won't need to buy through bitcoin and the prices wont be so noticeably tied to bitcoin either.

I think EOS is good but it is centralized it is very hard for me to invest on it for this problem. crypto must be free

what's not centralized? Have you seen the bitcoin mining distribution?

Bitcoin may be the only token and blockchain the world needs...but isn't this already being proved incorrect?

Very, very good point! That much should be obvious.

nice post and your story it, I like with your story it @ashe-oro

excellent friend You have my support. I hope to count on your support to keep growing. regards
