Hackers have committed a robbery on a major digital key platform, bitcoins worth more than $ 70 million.
"Yesterday morning around 1 am a hacker or a hacker group was able to penetrate our systems through a compromised computer," said NiceHash Marko Kobal, a spokeswoman for Thursday.
NiceHash, which describes itself as the largest digital currency market, said late Wednesday that it had suspended its operations for at least 24 hours due to breach of security. Kobal said efforts to bring the system back to the Internet are still under development.
About 4,700 bitcoins have been stolen from the site account, the Director said. They have been worth about $ 75 million since Friday's afternoon in Asia.
Cryptocurrencies are virtual "coins" that are "mined" by computers using complex algorithms. Bitcoin is the most famous.
NiceHash provides a platform for users to dig in for other cryptoporte and be paid on bitcoin. This could include considerable sums: Kobal said the country had paid over $ 1 billion since it began four years ago.
Bitcoin's value has increased over the last few weeks, spending $ 17,000 for the first time on Thursday.
NiceHash has announced all major bitcoin exchanges and mining sites about the violation in order to trace and possibly recover the stolen currency.
Hackers seem to have entered the NiceHash system using the credentials of one of the company's engineers.
"Given the complexity and security of the systems in the country, this looks like an overly coordinated and sophisticated attack," said Kobal.
He did not say if the funds were taken from the accounts of the users of NiceHash as well.
"While the full range of what's happening is still unknown, we recommend, as a precaution, to change your passwords on the Internet," NiceHash had previously warned users. "In addition to undertaking our investigations, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are collaborating with them as an urgent matter," he said.
The cyber shield is another reminder of the weakness of some digital currency platforms. Bitfinex, a Hong Kong-based bitcoin exchange, was briefly closed last year after hackers stole nearly 120,000 bitcoins - worth more than $ 65 million at that time. Last year, online thieves removed about 19,000 bitcoins after splitting into the European exchange bitstamp. The cyber security firm FireEye recently warned that North Korean hackers are increasing their efforts to steal bitcoin in order to support Kim Jong Un's authoritarian regime./CNN
