On Wednesday, Ripple appointed former Facebook payment executive Kahina Van Dyke as its senior vice presidents (SVP) of business and corporate development. With over 20 years of experience in banking and technology, Ripple believes Kahina would be instrumental in “strategic partnerships for Ripple across the global financial services industry.”

Kahina Van Dyke’s Background

Kahina has worked at some of the largest financial firms and is a seasoned veteran when it comes to the traditional banking and financial services industries. Before serving as Facebook’s global director of financial services and payment partnerships, Kahina worked for six years at MasterCard and was Citibank’s SVP of product management and business development.

Kahina’s Thoughts on the Current Payments Systems:

“There is a reason you have only a handful of major money transfer operators in the world today. Without question, cross-border transactions is one of the most complex and multifaceted problem in payments.

In highly developed markets, and emerging markets, fragmentation in technology across financial services infrastructure slows down and prevents greater efficiency in cross-border money transfers.”

Kahina’s Reasons for Joining Ripple:

“Ripple provides a real solution for eliminating the friction in cross-border payments, and it’s delivering value to real customers right now.

Ripple’s approach is not just disruption for the sake of disruption. Ripple is built around establishing partnerships and applying technology to change an industry. I think that is a really powerful message.

It’s why over 100 financial institutions work with Ripple, and will continue to do so. It’s why Ripple has some of the world’s most notable partners, both traditional banks as well as newer fintech players.

In my career, I have found that the most powerful solutions are often discovered when partners recognize the unique value the other party offers. It is in this intersection — of value and a respect for each other’s unique capabilities — where the best partnerships are born.”

Editor Thoughts Regarding the Appointment:

Many companies who were benefited from the recent cryptocurrency bull run have gained an astounding amount of money. With this money, many of the top blockchain companies are putting it to good use by hiring top experts in their field to make their technology leaner and meaner.

This has the added benefit of not only refining a state of the art technology, but also employing people to ensure it reaches into the financial markets that it needs to be in.

It appears Ripple (XRP) will likely be one of the top coins to watch moving forward.
