Bitwhat?

A few years ago, I came across this concept of currency made by someone with a Japanese name. It was just a boring afternoon at the office. Things was moving slowly. I kind of read about its concept and thought, "This guy is crazy..". I eventually forgot about it and moved on.

Forward to early this year, I was reading about digital finance somewhere online and I came across this thing again. The very same thing I have read about the years prior. I distinctly recall the Japanese name.

Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin.

It turns out that it has blown out into great proportions. I still remember myself almost falling out of my seat when I read about how much 1 bitcoin is nowadays! I still remembered years ago when some PTC sites give away 5 to 10 Bitcoins per ad viewed. Imagine if I did that years ago and accumulated some Bitcoins!

I never did imagine something made "out of the air" can be so valuable. I continued reading about it and discovered that there are numerous other 'altcoins' like Bitcoin.

From then on, my interest on it grew. I continued researching about it and it eventually got me into mining some. I am an IT guy so the setup and stuff weren't really that hard. I tried mining Bitcoin and even some of the altcoins like Litecoin, Dash, Dogecoin and even the fairly new one called Ethereum. It still hard to imagine how these things came about. People are literally making something valuable out of nothing but mathematical computations.

Bill Gates said that the future is Bitcoin. I think people will be holding on to that statement in the years to come.

(Still, how I wished I started accumulating some in 2009!)
