I have noticed in many bitcoin debates ive had that there is a common theme.
Alot of people hold many diffrent oppions about bitcoin and crypto currency but one of the most common defenses against bitcoin is that is is not money and when I start to dig deeper into people reasoning for thinking this one thing they generally say is along the lines that they see no possible way that the US will adopt bitcoin or start excepting it for taxes.
They use alot of other reasoning for why it is not money but i want to address this one.
My arguement consists mostly of concept rather than technical. I try to point out that bitcoin and other crypto allow us to have an alternative to goverment/bank controlled money. Gives users the choice and ability to leave the current systems. That seems to be hard for people to understand. When they reply with they doupt the USSA will adopt bitcoin my answer is always well of course they wont. This reveals a common flaw in human belief about money. That somehow if their goverment doesnt use it or except it that it is not real. They fail to understand that they themselves and their participation within an economy buying and selling goods is actual what give money its value. What happens once you stop contributing to one economy and start contributing to another. You ad you economic weight and power to this new economy in essence you cast your vote on what is real. What happens if evert person switches. The old economy will fail tge new will florish. The USSA will hopefully never use bitcoin that would defeat the entire purpose and we would all have to switch to another decentralized solution. The power of giving people control of their lives through money is an incredible acheivment. One in which allows us to no longer be subject to the whems of a few big bankers loading their pockets.
One example i like to use is. What happens when the fed and the US gov get together and decide now is the time. They announce that they will allow deposits of cash into bank accounts for 6 months banks will no longer give out cash and at the end of this 6mos period they will stop. No more cash. They encourage every citizen to come in and open an account. What choice would the everyday american have but to join the credit and debt system or starve. This example is usually met with "that will never happen maybe in some shitty little gov system they do that but not here" so i provide several sources pointing out multiple to gov officials and economists anouncing their plans to get rid of cash starting with the $100 dollar bill, and a few more articles about indias recent experiments in doing this. Everyone reacts diffrently to this some argue to the end that this will never happen some stop talking to me completly and others begin to see the picture.
As humans we have the right to transact with who ever we want in any manner we want. Bitcoin allows us to do this without censor or permission.
This is what is at the soul of this evolution.
