It was late 2015 and I was serious about buying bitcoin at that point it was about $150 and everyday it was going up in value, it rallied to $300 or $400 I remember trying to desperately buy it at around $300 but I just didn't have a clue how to do it. I was on this very basic looking website with an option to make a bid, it all seems pretty dodgy to me, I just didn't get how it worked, and I already recently had got stung by accidently falling into my friends ponzi scheme. Of course I was mad with him after that, he was a work friend but after all I don't think he wanted it to go wrong but it did.
As compensation he gave me this bitcoin mining stick with a little fan.
But I never used it because I didn't think my laptop could handle it, the electric power needed and how much was I going to realistically make with a stick.
I do still wonder if it would of been worth it but I think I worked it out and it wouldn't of been. however buying a bitcoin or at least 10 + bitcoins at $300 would have done more of the trick.
Because the rally that came after was phenomal all the way to almost $20k over 2016 and peaking at 2017, of course I was fuming, I really couldn't belive i could of made some serious profit.
Reality is that I probably would of got hacked or had no idea how to sell and rebuy the dip.
In the end though it led me to STEEM where I started to blog everyday, eventually after a year chipping away at STEEMIT I decided to diversify some of my assests and swap steem for some bitcoin at $5000 only like $50 which is now worth $400
I guess since its digital gold im just holding indefinitely now...
But why didn't I buy a whole one at $5000...
I don't really know, I guess I was a little cautious after seeing such price swings the last bull run, I didn't know what to make of it, I still didn't fully understand the technology or the halving process, everything felt so overwhelming new. I always had a feeling bitcoin was the future even without fully understanding it.
I first heard about it through people I knew who used the dark Web to buy psychedelics back around 2011/12 so its even more mind blowing to think wow I could of got my hand on this precious thing before $100
I'm sure everyone has this story, its pretty narley! Tbh now I'm looking for those gems that will help me get through the next 10 years because as much as I love the king #1 BTC im clearly not a maxi, I have to dream that I have got into the next moon shot.
Of course I'm still thankful for everything bitcoin represents (apart from the sustainability questions over mining) even so I've heard more renewable energy is being used since the miners moved to USA after China ban. Tho at the sametime its was trying to break the status quo it feels like with all this instutional interest its been taking over by the very ppl it was fighting against. Maybe wrong but I've heard when something gets too popular its time to jump ship, the party is over.
Would do u think?
Oh haha yeah I always think about this... When I first started traveling I met the proto-digital nomad family who were behind couch surfing and hitchwiki and they told me about bitcoin in 2010/2011... I think I was very risk averse when I was younger, and I didn't have much scope of vision
