May 22: How many box of Pizza can you buy with 10,000 Bitcoins?

You probably think that you can buy a lot of pizzas with 10,000 Bitcoin.

But not for Laszlo Hanyecz, a programmer.

Last May 22, 2010 he bought two box of Papa John's pizzas worth around $25 and delivered to his home in Jacksonville, Florida. “It wasn’t like bitcoins had any value back then, so the idea of trading them for a pizza was incredibly cool,” Hanyecz, then 32 years old, told the New York Times in December 2013. “No one knew it was going to get so big.”

You can say that was a not-so good trade, but only if you're from future. It was just friendly trade back then, but did by a cryptocurrency fan — being the first person traded bitcoins for a real-world commodity. Isn't that fascinating?

Eight years later, from when the word "...big," was just an understatement, Bitcoin is accepted slightly further afield than peer-to-peer deals for Papa John’s. A number of major online stores including Microsoft support Bitcoin payments, and it powers a number of exchanges including Coinbase and Abra that offer rapid transfer between fiat currencies.

Now, the crypto-community hasn’t forgotten Hanyecz’s heroic quest. The Ledger has released a limited edition red “Pizza Day” cryptocurrency hardware wallet to mark the occasion. BTC.com is offering free pizza to the first 10 people to share a photo of their meal. Oh, I want one! It was just and like any ordinary pizzas, but it was enough to fuel a global movement.

I wanna know, if you're in his shoes and you don't know that bitcoin could be this big, would you buy a pizza?

As I am from the future so a big fat "NO".

Haha. I would say "no" too.

Aside from joke, your article is not only entertaining but also giving us lesson of being careful in our treatment with new things/technology/currency/people etc.

In our current time, being careful really helps. Thanks, anyway.
