Right, you must have noticed a couple of years ago when every single website started to ask for your approval of cookies. The reason for that is the EU Cookie Law, originally came into place on the 26th of May 2012 and means you, as the site owner/administrator, have to get your visitors' informed consent before placing a cookie. So why is this so important?
With our everyday activities, we create data. Browsing on Facebook, Amazon, Youtube etc. our data is tracked and stored. So why is this so important? MARKETING! Just have a look when you browse a specific thing, for example, something related to gardening, you will notice that all the ads you see have become gardening related. That's the way big corporation sell you more stuff. They track what your interests are and advertise you on those specific interests.
Blah, blah, why should I care? Because there is a way now to get money back for the amount of data you get sold!
Two blockchain projects coming up Datum and Fluence.
Datum defines personal data as the "new oil" and for a reason. We have created 2.5 Quintillion bytes of data, 90% of which in the last 2 years. And you have never seen a penny for that data.
Datum is a blockchain based network on which you will be able to store your data. The app will gather your data automatically from social networks, browsing the internet, wearable devices, etc. and then add additional noise so that your anonymity is kept safe. You will then have access to your stored that and have the option to sell it on your own terms to companies, universities, and different projects.
The platform will operate with DAT as a cryptocurrency. Users will pay a small fee for the storage of data. Miners will be paid for providing storage and computational power. Buyers will pay the users for purchasing user data. The platform will be accessible from an app, which will serve additionally to hold your coins in a secure wallet.
The ICO will start on17 October 2017, with a hard-cap of 153000 Ether and the platform launch will be around June 2018. The exceptional thing about this project is that it is not the average team. The concept behind the idea was founded in September 2016, with the whitepaper and concept validation launching in June 2017.
The company is led by CEO and Co-Founder Roger Haenni, who also co-founded StockX, SwissInvest, PCP.ch, and Kosi. Other key members of the team include Gebhard Scherrer (Operations, Co-Founder), and VC Tran (Marketing, Co-Founder). The team has over 80 years of experience building large scale data processing and management systems. The company is based in Switzerland, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Fluence is pretty much the same as Datum. Perhaps the one major difference is that they have a broader spectrum of targeted data. Fluence is focusing, in addition to online data, to medical data as well. Their opperating model is alsmost identical to Datum's:
Fluence is headed by CEO Evgeny Ponomarev and CTO Dmitry Kurinsiky. Ponomarev built the 2GIS Dialer mobile app that at one point processed more than 65 million calls per month. He claims he first mined Bitcoin in 2011 on a CPU. Ponomarev has a BA in Math, and worked a number of jobs as a Product Manager. CTO Dmitry Kurinskiy is a software engineer with over 13 years of experience in previous roles including CTO at tech consulting firm Taktika, CTO at delivery startup Passenger.me, and Lead Software Engineer at shopping list startup Whisk. The company’s technical advisors include Alexander Demidko (Data Platform Engineer at Stitch Fix and former Lead Software Engineer at Metamarkets), Michael Egorov (CTO at NuCypher), and Nhan Phan (VP Engineering at Metamarkets).
So which one of those is going to come on top of the other? Really hard to predict, however both have an incredible potential. What is your opinion on those two? Thanks for reading, follow me @crypto.analyst for other ICO and cryptocurrency reviews
