It is official! As of 2:14 pm ET today, BCH has forked from the original BTC blockchain.
After having issues earlier this morning, mining firm ViaBTC has successfully mined their first block of BCH. The event occurred nearly 6 hours after block 478,558. According to network data, Bitcoin Cash's first block contained 6,985 transactions, with a block size of 1.915 MB – nearly double the size of this parameter on the original BTC chain. CoinMarketCap.com is reporting an initial trading price for BCH at $219 USD and Kraken is reporting trading volume at slightly over $3 million USD since launch.
It will be very interesting to see what the price of all cryptocurrencies will do in the next 24 to 48 hours. There has been a bull run on most altcoins since the hard fork occurred, indicating that people are gaining confidence now that the fork has occurred.
