or, it is within the limits of possibility that they would create a 'fake blockchain' (like fake news) with back-doors so they could control and manipulate it, then hype it in the corporate media to drive everyone in there... then kabam! they lower the boom

I would say that the Crypto community is far more skeptical then the CNN / FOX community of believers. It's much more difficult to infiltrate Crytpo on a large scale and get away with it. Look at Bitcoin, the mere rumor that billionaires are buying the Core devlopers and 5 more alternative development teams pop up and the Blockchain is transparent. You can't just transfer $25 Billion to your buddies without someone knowing it. Plus, you can always move to Ethereum or Dash or NEM or or or or a hundred others.
