Or maybe he just was afraid for his freedom? For example, if Japan, where he came from, would have recognized the bitcoin as illegal, and would have decided to arrest the creator?

    Potentially. The name Satoshi Nakomoto is Japanese, but that by no means correlates to the creator actually being from Japan. It was obviously a fake name, so there's little to support the country would be true as well.

      Well, he could be, for example, from China. Then to reveal himself to him would be even more dangerous.
