I have no bitcoin and do not mind (I think)

in #bitcoin7 years ago

the last few weeks BTC has proven again that its the master of crypto currencies.  Jumping over that magical 6000 dollar hurdle has really confirmed a lot and has (temporarily) shut up a lot of the bubble-people.

I am relatively new to the crypto space (about half a year) and BTC is for me something that does not really bring me anything (except possible investment value) and I would like to think that what attracts me to this brave new world is not just only the money.

Bitcoin is important because it was the first real blockchain but personally it looking more and more like thats the only reason.  There is so much infighting between all the miners, uncertainty about what protocol to use, weather to go for a fork or stick to the knife.  Bitcoin seems to me to have served its purpose as a groundbreaker and deserves to keep its value and even to get more valuable

On the other hand there are all these exiting altcoins out there doing so much more and really changing the world.  Its the real world applications that are exiting to me and possessing some of those coins makes everything even more enticing

  • proof of brain like Steem
  • proof of  stake like Neo and even Ethereum in the future
  • Bitshares that give you part of a decentralised platform or its like minded system spectre which is launching its ICO next week that gives you the option to participate in the profit.
  • privacy coins like Monero
  • the list is growing and I will admit that there are a lot of really lousy things out there and that most of the coins are not going to make it but its all these Ideas that speak to me, the creativity that has been unleashed.

If you are into crypto and want to see this world grow and hopefully make some money along the way, then for me the altcoins are the way to go.  Bitcoin is indeed becoming a bit like gold and maybe you needed gold to start of with (like in the middle ages) but now there are whole other economies out there.

Like gold, Bitcoin has its purpose but I feel that it is no longer the driving creative force and is becoming the financial force behind the cryptospace.

or it could be that I am just blaming myself for not finding it sooner and buying some...  (and this is me justifying me to myself)

I guess I would not complain when I would have a couple of bitcoin in my wallet (anyone that wants to can feel free to send me some 1MVVQ9YrTD5TUoaSi1rgpTnCgs77aCVBsz  and if you do not want to do that an upvote is also nice)

or you could just put in your opinion on the future of bitcoin and the function you think it will hold in this exiting new world

I think you may be a little ahead of yourself in your analysis of Bitcoin. Maybe give it 2-3 years for events like the Flippening to come to be. If anything, I would believe that the past two weeks would have made you reassess your investment strategy particularly since many alt coins have diverged pretty substantially in price from bitcoin. It does appear that they will catch back up, especially after the forks, but clearly the smart play is too give bitcoin the respect it deserves and keep it near the top of your portfolio. Altcoins and their teams have everything to prove but the first coins to achieve real products and a real use-case will explode (like nuclear), along with bitcoin, not instead of.

this is indeed what I am saying in a roundabout way... I respect bitcoin, have not bought any but if i would i might do it and treat it like real gold and just put it in the safe but will it ever be more then just that?
