Digging Into Basic Attention Token and the Brave Browser

in #bitcoin7 years ago

Basic Attention Token is a decentralized, open source and efficient blockchain-based digital advertising platform.

Part one of the platform is the Brave browser, which is a fast, open source, privacy-focused browser that blocks ads and trackers, and contains a ledger system that anonymously measures user attention aggregate to accurately to reward publishers.

It all runs on the BAT token. I last wrote about the token and ICO in June 2017, when BAT raised $35 million in just 30 seconds, a record at the time.

Today, I’ll dig into Basic Attention Token and the Brave browser.

The man behind Brave and BAT is Brendan Eich. His resume includes CEO of Mozilla, developer of the Firefox browser and the creator of JavaScript. He did a presentation not too long ago about Brave and BAT at Facebook, which you can check out here.

BAT aims to help some of the problems with digital advertising, which according to BAT a is overrun by middlemen, trackers and fraud.

The Brave browser automatically blocks ads and tracks that violate your privacy and cost you time and money. Per Brave it’s 2x faster than Chrome and Safari on desktop and up to 8x faster on mobile. Plus you can save on data charges, avoid infections, and protect your privacy.

In the ecosystem, advertisers will give publisher BATs based on the measured attention of users. Users will also receive BATs for participating. The utility of the token is based on user attention, which simply means a person’s focused mental engagement. You can see how it works in the graphic below.

The Brave browser has actually been around since June 2016. Since then and after the token sale Brave launched on the BAT platform, it added a BAT wallet, and also added Brave Payments, which can be used to reward YouTube creators.

To promote the platform Brave announced a $1 million BAT giveaway in mid-January. That lasted a week so Brave double-upped the promotion. I’m not sure if any is left.

What’s cool is that Brave now has over 2,000 verified websites and over 6,000 verified YouTube creators.

In the next installment, using the Brave browser.

Awesome, been bullish on BAT since I learned about them last August. Been holding ever since. Super excited for them unrolling ad trials ... couldn't come too soon. Have you tried their mobile browser? I have and it's amazing ...

I keep seeing things about the mobile browser. I guess now is the time to try it out

I'm testing how the desktop browser at the moment... it's an adjustment!

Well, I did not want to believe it before. But now I must admit, BLOCKCHAIN IS THE FUTURE

Lol ;-p

very informational and useful writing.
thank you so much, sir

Cheers!

thank s for sharing this info
I wish tell me how can I find the best ico ??

Use the ICO ratings sites.

Thanks for the guide. I'm still stuck with Chrome, but Brave is looking better and better.

No doubt... I still use Chrome too... need time to figure out Brave.

As anyone that runs a website knows, ad based revenues are no longer a viable means of sustaining sites. Been reading about the Brave Browser and Basic Attention Token, very interesting, can see the future

Yes, been following the adpocolypse since early 2017. The landscape will be very different in a few years.

okay brothers g-dubs 😊

Thanks for this post @g-dubs - I own BAT tokens and have been using the browser for a while now. Really quality stuff. Good work as always!

Very cool. Thanks!

Brave is really good and I'm using it myself. I've written a post about it too! I personally believe that this kind of p2p business model is going to grab more attention in the coming years.

I have been using Brave for some time now. I like it in general, but it still needs a lot of work be as good as Chrome or Firefox. Yet, I am so hopeful that its team will be able to do that soon.Thank you, @g-dubs.

truly extraordinary

I've been holding BAT since last spring, and I love the project. I'm eagerly awaiting the stage where you can earn BAT by browsing!

But, I am still wary of the concept. I remember back in the 90's this was attempted too, and I used to run a browser plugin which paid me for displayed ads. It failed, obviously. Maybe BAT and cryptocurrency and the digital world today can be a new chance for this concept - I really hope so!

Still, these thoughts prompted me to sell some BAT a while ago when the market cap was at it's height. My $50 had grown into several hundred dollars, and though I like the concept... I really only want like $50 of it.. not hundreds of dollars. So I downsized my holding and took some profits and now I'm back to holding $50-100.
I just don't feel comfortable putting a lot of money into this. I'm still skeptical of the token value proposition, and not sure the BAT token needs to be expensive in order to be useful.

I am a big fan of BAT(Basic Attention Token ).Still Need To Know About Brave Browser. Is it Compitator For Chrome

Awesome great post sir

I have been using brave browser and also have BAT account can you guide me little if you have info
