August 1 is approaching fast. On that date, a user activated hard fork would give birth to a brand new cryptocurrency called "Bitcoin Cash". The good thing though is that if you control your public and private keys, such as in the case of a desktop, hardware, paper or even a non-custodial web wallet, you would have access to both versions of your bitcoins.
The initial price of Bitcoin cash is likely to be much lower (at around $500) than that of Bitcoin core (nearly $2800 at this moment). And I speculate that in the beginning it would go even lower due to many popular exchanges, such as CoinBase, not trading in it, and many bitcoin holders selling it, thinking of it as free money.
On the positive side, this gives us the chance to buy Bitcoin cash at a very low price. Given its improved transaction speed, it could become much more valuable than Bitcoin core in the future. So, if you previously missed the Bitcoin boat due to its prohibitive price, this is your chance to have another crack at it! So, happy buying and profiting :)!
