A new attack on users of Bitcoin who takes control of the Windows clipboard to exchange addresses is already monitoring 2.3 million targets, they reported the sources on June 30.

He malware , which is part of a family of threats known as "clipboard hijackers", secretly gains control of memory, running in the background to ensure that users do not notice their presence. Next, it replaces the Bitcoin address that the user has copied to the clipboard with the address of the attacker, which the user then hits without knowing it and sends his coins.

"Unless a user double checks the address pasted, they will have no idea that this exchange was made", points out Bleeping Computer, adding an explanatory video about how malware works.

Bitcoin users face a variety of vulnerabilities when using hardware to perform transactions, regardless of whether it is a smartphone Android , a Windows PC or other device.

As Cointelegraph has frequently reported, the list of threats keep growing , even incorporating emails, while other malicious entities change the destination addresses of different ways .

"Attackers recognize that users are copying and pasting addresses and have created malware to take advantage of this," adds Bleeping Computer.

Keeping antivirus software up to date is the main defense of users against the problem, along with double checking the destination Bitcoin address of a transaction if it has been entered using a copy and paste function.

Some hardware wallets like TREZOR they also force users to verify addresses for manipulations every time they are generated.
