Are you still trying to understand why Bitcoin is a big deal? or Looking for some tools to value it?
Metcalfe's Law - This states that the value of a network like bitcoin is the square of its users.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metcalfe%27s_lawHodling - This refers to people who "buy" and "hold". They want to keep something for a "long" time. Bitcoin will never make more than 20 milion bitcoins. In terms of companies you are familiar with it would be like cutting the number of stock shares to less than one tenth of what they have. Less shares = scarcity = more value.
Many bitcoins have already been lost forever due to carelessness or lack of caring or attention. So, there will be less than 20 million.
Bitcoin comes with a technology called Blockchain. Blockchain is a superior way to keep records and make exchanges. So, it gaurantees things like Real Estate, Insurance, and can play a role like gold. If bitcoin takes 5% of the Gold market it goes to 25,000 per bitcoin. What happens when it takes over 5% of Real Estate and Insurance as well? The chances of it taking a big chunk out of these markets with its new and improved way of doing things is very strong.
Many new companies are developing cards like credit cards where you can spend Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and altcoins. This will really open the door to merchants and companies accepting this new form of payment.
This presupposes that no other crypto will take the place of Bitcoin.
@frankvvv,
Great question which touches several healthy discussion topics for this new economy. I responded in a new article.
