Recently, Cointelegraph announced Bitcoin is now legal in India, so I try to research from multiple sources which countries had allowed to make bitcoin transactions in a legal way, and which ones point Bitcoin as illegal for many reasons, I clearly think many countries are not prepared to receive a big change as to start using cryptocurrencies as a legit payment method. So the blockchain technology isn´t a tool they can explore and benefit from it.
That is one main reason why bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is simple "banned" without a good reason, instead of that some countries are trying to "protect" national economy and citizens about the exponential explosion of blockchain all around the world.
there are some countries
Banned Bitcoin
Since 2014 Bolivia´s Government had announced the Bitcoin ban, it prohibites the use of any currency not authorized by the national government, this drastic move take its excuses for protecting the national currency "Boliviano" and protecting user also for losing their money.
Spanish news
Iván Carrino said clearly, the responsibles for destroying a currency are the national governments and central banks, who allows the inflation and protect just a privileged group in the economy and the society.
This islamic country had catalogued the virtual currencies as a "phenomenom" since 2014, saying there is a law´s violation to use another currencie inside the country as a payment method. The national currency "som" is the sole legal tender for all the national territory.
So they consider as a tremendous risk to use a currency without any support of a central bank or government
Iceland had a difficult time after the US crisis in the 2008, with some corruption cases inside the government and a drastic change made since then, to did what Europe call as “The Miraculous Story of Iceland”.
Bitcoin is not considered as "illegal" in 100%, but the fact is that the government tried to "control" the flow of the money out the country, so icelandics were not allowed to get the money out. Meanwhile some people involved in government were accused in the famous case "Panama Papers", and that is why people criticized this measure as contradictory.
In 2014 Auroracoin started in the market but this strange coin has not the expected success, as a national counterpart and optional digital coin instead of bitcoin.
We dont know if the national government will change its opinion about the current legislation.
* Vietnam
The central bank and national governement do not offer any protection to people who are using bitcoins, because of its anonymous "nature", they consider as a way to do illegal transactions as tax evasion, money laudering, drug trafficking, etc. So they warned people since 2014 not to use it.
Also, Vietnam´s government had not said any punishment against using bitcoin, so it is not a violation against the law in those terms.
Another countries where Bitcoin has some kind of resistance
Ecuador
Bolivia
Thailand
Russia
Sweden
