Only 0,32% of Bitcoin transactions are using Segwit right now... Horray I guess?

As of block #481,824 Segwit has finally activated and everyone is celebrating #SegwitParty!!!

But it doesn't really seem to catch on, does it... Bitcoin fees are higher than ever and there is almost no software right now that supports Segwit transactions. I wanted to investigate exactly, how many transactions are actually using Segwit. To do this, I downloaded the latest 10 blocks (blocks #482092 - #482101) and wrote a small python script to count the number of transactions that are using segwit. Out of the 21138 transactions that were listed, an astonishing amount of 67 of them used the "witness" attribute. That corresponds to 0,3169% of all transactions.

What this shows it that the activation of Segwit is far from over. It will probably take weeks or even months for Segwit to be supported on all major Bitcoin software and the effects of Segwit become noticable.

In that time the fees will make it unusable. Better to just use Bitcoin Cash.

Yeah they didn't really think ahead did they. No complaints here! In the meantime I'll be waiting for all my bitcoin cash to skyrocket.

Sorry but I hope Antpool keeps mining empty blocks instead of segwit blocks. These coming months until 2018 will be very interesting for both bitcoins.
