Using Authy for 2FA? Update Settings to Avoid Hackers

in #bitcoin7 years ago

Ive said many times - everything you put on exchanges you risk losing everything if exchange dies, scams or gets hacked. But in the mix of bad events the exchange can be fine but you can be hacked as an user.

Ie like it was on Binance lately, the exchange was fine just loads of users got phished.

To avoid that you should use 2FA and there are 2 most popular options Google Authenticator and Authy.

Currently, there is a way for hackers to take over your Authy with one of its options. Luckily easy to fix.

Settings -> Devices -> TURN OFF "Allow Multi-device".

Its suggested to backup your 2FAs and not use SMS ones.

Stay safe!

We have to be diligent and as safe as possible. These hacks and stolen accounts will be the demise of cryptos if the masses continue to see all these problems just tying to keep your money safe. This is a huge concern right now on how to educate everyone especially newbies just entering the space. There can't be bad experiences in the beginning or people will lose interest and move on. The average crypto user isn't going to take all the time to research this stuff, it has to get simplified for users or it will never get mass adoption.

Thanks for the update.Hackers are getting more brazen with their attacks.

I am new comer, please help me friend

How about Google Authenticator, can that also be taken over by hakers?

thanks for sharing about how to solve the hacker.
Good job @kingscrown

Yeah gotta stay ahead of the hackers.

Thanks for advice.
When we talk about phishing in the last time Steemit become target for scammers and everyone should learn how to protect himself.

Thanks for sharing this.
Really appreciate.

Do you think the Binance ""hack"" happened because of people using tools like blockfolio and similar and never bothered to check what kind of API access they're giving out? While giving other apps the access you're supposed to restrict it to Read-Only access. I don't think many people are cognizant of it.

oho that veary use .. now its hard to hucke .. thanks

Hi, Man !
Great post, but i dont see that preference in my Phone. Actually, What phone do you use ?

I thinking about changing all logins to Authy because you can backup your codes unlike Google Authenticator. If my phone breaks it will be a nightmare to get back in all the sites I use Authenticator on.

yeap...
you are Right...
Hackers are waiting to get a chance from your mistake..Anytim, they crashed the account and go away with all of your money...
so stay safe and pleasant to use the app 2FA...

I am using 1Password for 2FA. It's not free, but offers a pretty good user experience and syncs across all my devices.

Thanks to share amazing information.

I use Google Authenticator because I am not a Chinese. LOL! The SMS option at Binance is only for users in a certain country/region if my memory is correct. :-D
