First & foremost, you need to be patient and determined!

If you are beginner in 2018, first ask these question from yourself:
- Do you like Bitcoin or any other major crypto currencies?
- How long have you followed cryptoworld?
- Do you have enough money to have fun (i.e. invest in highly risky market with chances of loosing out all)?
If you already own few cryptocoins, then just get tighten yourself up
Now, define a trading price for all coins that you are interested to invest into. Write down on paper or in word or image and stick it on a place which is always visible while you do trading on computer or laptop.
Here is an example under the current situation (17.Jan.2018 few minutes before this post, currency is EURO here). What you see in braces are last one or two buying prices! Now, set price alert in Blockfolio app or any app which has this feature. Otherwise, you can also keep your eye on prices directly in your exchange website where you are going to do your purchase.
Now, be determined. Not to buy until the prices fall below the target you have defined! As soon as the prices falls below those targets, immediately place buy order. For next round, you can define next set of goal prices.
Small but very useful tip: Don't invest all money at same exchange or for same coin! Also, divide your whole investable money and purchase in parts at different prices. This would keep a lower profitable average purchase price.

In a bloodbath scenario, an investor can select tokens to purchase at a bargain if he/she has adequate knowledge and preparation. Some diversification will be prudent - value & platform tokens.
