It looks like we are getting really close to the activation of Bitcoin's new Segwit2x. Because of this fact, there may be all sorts of problems that arise as they get all the bugs out including orphans and network freezes.
According to a recent post by @kingscrown
Many exchanges/services wont accept deposits and withdrawals now
TLDR; Pools signalining non-segwit blocks will be orphaned (we can even say reversed) as network wont accept them.
Final Thoughts
If you need to make transfers there are many other stable cryptocurrency choices to use. For example you can still make transfers without worry in Steem, Dash, Eth and many more without worry.
This is an epic time for Bitcoin and I think there are many green days ahead. Be safe and enjoy the ride!

I am looking at Tether as an alternative. Any comments on that would be appreciated.
USDT is a respectable alternative however there are a few things to keep in mind when using it. The main issue is that theres no underlying asset that secures the value of it. This won't be a problem unless everyone comes calling at the same time for their coins back.
