With all the hype about bitcoin and cryptocurrency, one can't help but think of misplaced value that we give to things that fundamentally are only designed to serve our most valued asset.
Time....
Or....is it?
Western culture is money-centric, success-centric and ego driven. Where our worth is defined by our balances, rather than our balances supporting and exercising our worth.
How many times have you heard of the stories of people working 20 hours a day for 10 years (hm Gary V anyone?) or someone who gave up everything to achieve success.
We place these people on pedestals all the time. They become mini gods of aspiration of what can be obtained if you spend the time to get there.
But, this is the biggest part of the equation, if you are spending the time in pursuit of more, to allow you to spend your remaining time in a nice environment, on a nicer holiday... you are also losing alot of time in the process.
...Is the time you lose to the pursuit of the almighty dollar worth the rewards that dollar provides you with once obtained?
I'm not sure. One thing I am sure about which is demonstrated by the great 2017 Cryptomania rush of all ages. Is that people long to live the lottery and I think it makes complete sense.
They perceive the ability to have all the time in the world, spent exactly how they choose to be the ultimate goal and level of satisfaction.
Unfortunately, this has been proven wrong time and time again. Think of the worlds richest, many don't know what to do with themselves. They have everything, they have all the time in the world. But they also have lost purpose. .
I've come to the conclusion that our most undervalued asset that anyone holds, is their own unique purpose. Without purpose, money is useless, without purpose, time is useless.
How often do you think about what is your purpose? Why you get out of bed? What you want to contribute.
Ultimately, what is your purpose?
