The following fairy tales exist :
There was a village with many monkeys. How many of them were able to see monkeys more easily than rolling stones.
One day a merchant appeared in the village with an assistant. People didn't think it was any stranger who came to do business. But the merchant shouted,
" I buy one for 100 dollars per monkey. If you bring one, I will give you 100 dollars without fail. "
Because there were many monkeys, the villagers thought the strange man talking crazy. Some of them, however, just caught the monkey and took it to the merchant, and they actually got a 100 dollars a head. After it became known, others began to catch monkeys. The town's monkey population has dropped considerably.
It used to be easy to catch, but now it has become noticeably more difficult for people to catch. So most people stopped catching them and went back to normal.
As the number of people decreased, the merchant started shouting again.
" I buy one for 200 dollars per monkey. If you bring it now, I will give you 200 dollars per monkey. "
Hearing that, the villagers were interested again. Everyone started to catch the monkey, it was harder than before, but people could still catch monkeys easily. The monkey numbers decreased a lot again, and each time the merchant raised the price by 300 dollars, 400 dollars, and 1,000 dollars.
As the monkey was nearly gone, the merchant said he would go to another place for business one day.
The villagers ask the assistant if the merchant is going anywhere else, the assistant said.
" He didn't have enough money now, so he went to get more. I heard that he would buy it for 1,100 dollars. "
Then people start to catch the monkeys again. Then the assistant came and asked the villagers for a favor.
" You can buy my monkey for 800 dollars. Do you want to buy it? When the merchant comes, he will buy everything again for 1,100 dollars. "
So, people start to buy monkeys.
And on the day the merchant was to come, people waited for him, but he did not come, and his assistant also suddenly disappeared.
The only thing left in the village were many monkeys and the people who lost money.
